Lara's P.O.V
Suann arrived about 10 minutes later. I couldn't be mad at her. She had never met my mother. I wished she would have given me a call first and made sure it was okay to give Riley to someone, but maybe it was because Riley wasn't afraid to leave with Tanner's mother, and she probably took that as a good sign. That's why she didnt think about calling me.
Either way, a call would have been good. Maybe I wouldn't be here right now. I gave her a small smile, told her I'd be busy for the night and made sure she was okay with keeping Riley for the night. Once they were gone, I turned to look at Tanner's mother...
"Go to the bathroom and change out of those clothes. I left something else for you to wear."
"Why would I do that? You want to talk, let's talk then."
She waved her hand at someone behind me, so I turned to see who it was.
It was the woman that claimed to be Tanner's fiancée 6 years ago. She came over to the table with a big envelope in her hand and took a seat next to me. I just realized how empty the diner was. It wasn't that late to be close to closing time, and I am not sure if it was already this empty when I walked in or not.
The younger woman slid the envelope on the table over to me, her face as hard as stone. She looked like she was disgusted just by my mere presence.
"What is this? more intimate photos?"
I asked her, looking down at the envelope, then back at her.
"Open it."
Tanner's mother said.
"I'm not taking your money... Mrs..."
"Call me Monica, and it's not money. Open it."
I reached for the envelope and opened it, then turned it upside down and let the contents of it spill out onto the table, more photos... but when I looked closer they were pictures of me... standing with a sketchy-looking man on a corner. The next one was a photo of the man handing me something small.
A clear small plastic bag with a white substance inside... the next one is where I handed him the money. I took the photos closer to my face. I don't know this place. I don't even know who the man is, but what I do know is that this looked like some kind of drug exchange. This wasn't me, it was someone that looked like me. I have never used drugs.
"So you see, if you don't do as I say, I could hand those to a social worker, tell her you're an unfit mother, and they will take your boy."
"No one will believe this is me. What the f**k are you playing at here?"
"Are you sure? I have connections, and it only takes that one social worker to be on my side then it wouldn't matter what you say."
I hated people that people with money thought money gave them the power to do whatever the f**k it is they wanted, even when, most times, money got you everything you wanted, even fake photos and planting fake evidence. Was there anything I could do to get out of this? Probably not, was disagreeing to do as she said, worth me losing my son over? No.
"What do you want from me?"
"Go into the bathroom and change like I asked you before."
"Just because I am going with this doesn't mean I am giving into whatever the hell it is you're trying to do."
I said as I got up and walked to the bathroom.
I changed out of my clothes and realized how f****d up all of this was. This woman was f*****g nuts, but she proved she wasn't the kind of woman you messed with. I wonder if Tanner was involved in this? Was he a part of this plan? Was he doing this because he wanted custody of my son?
"What now?"
I asked when I returned to the table.
"Now you leave your keys on the table and come with me."
I did as she asked and followed her out of the diner to a black car. The other woman stayed back in the diner...
Jasmin's P.O.V
The plan was that I keep my mouth shut, hand Lara the photos and then change into her clothes after they left the diner. I would feel sorry for the poor thing if it wasn't for the $350,000 I had in my handbag. After changing into Lara's sweaty clothes, I put the hood of her sweat shirt on my head and made my way out of the diner.
Pressed the button on her fob and found her car, then I drove to her apartment and spent the night. Before the day break broke, I packed a suitcase with her clothes and things I thought she would need to make it look like she had left. I slipped out again. I made sure to keep my face out of the cameras but also to be seen by them.
We looked similar from behind the same height. I wasn't as fat as her, but there was nothing a fat suit couldn't do, right? I hit the road, turned off her phone and just drove. It was nearing nighttime when I finally hit an area where there were no more cameras to follow me. Monica got a driver to wait for me here.
I changed out of the clothes I had on of Lara, dumped the clothes and the fat suit in the trunk of her car, then the driver and I swopped cars, and I made my way back to the mansion. Tanner sat in front of the TV when i entered the TV room, scotch in hand.
"Late night?"
He asked me.
"Oh, I went to visit my mother. I tried to call you, but you didn't answer. I asked your mother to pass the message on to you."
I said just like Monica told me to.
"She didn't."
"Thought as much. Do you need anything before I get to bed?"
"No."
Tanner's P.O.V
It's been two days since seeing Lara. She wasn't at the club and that got me worried. Was she sick? Did she quit? Was Riley not feeling well? I made my way to Jacky's office when I overheard her talking to Suann.
"When was this?"
Jacky asked.
"Tuesday, I took Riley to school and told him his mother wasn't feeling well, but I don't think I can lie to him anymore."
"She loves that kid. She wouldn't just leave him something must have happened."
"She gave me a spare key to her apartment a while back. I went to look for her, some of her things are gone... maybe her mother knows where she is."
Lara was gone? But where could she have gone, and why didn't she take Riley with her?
"I'm not sure what to do here. Maybe she needed a break, something was going on, but I also don't think she would just leave Riley like that. I'll look in the files for the contact number of her mother. Keep Riley with you until I know more, okay?"
"Sure"
Suann stepped out of the office and when she was out of sight, I slipped in.
"Ezra, how can I help you?"
There was no point in lying anymore, so I told her everything.
"Well, I don't know what you want me to say about that, I do have a few things on my mind, but you're my boss and I love my job."
"I know I hurt her, but she wouldn't leave without Riley because of me. If anything, she would take him with her so she could keep him away from me."
"You're right about that."
