Dane POV
I quickly held her in my arms and buried my face in her hair. I was lucky enough I was able to hold her. She let her pain loose and started to sob. Her body shook and a second later I felt her softly pounding my chest.
The words I had practiced in my head vanished as grief overcame. I couldn't muster to say anything as I might hurt her more.
"Peanut…" I heard her call out.
"I'm here now. I'm so sorry. I will never leave you again."
"I hate you." She pounded my chest some more.
"I know. And I accept it." I would accept anything and everything except to lose her. After kissing the side of her head, I murmured in her ear, "I accept all the hate, but know that I still love you." I didn't know I was also crying until I felt the wetness on Lexi's hair.
