I winced as the doctor worked on my wounds, but my mind stayed locked on gathering every scrap of information I could. “Thanks for patching me up, Doc. How long have you been with this pack?”
The doctor, a kind-eyed woman named Selara, gave me a warm smile. “Let’s see… I’ve been here for about thirty years now. The Alpha brought me in himself. He was looking for a medic with my particular… skills.”
My curiosity spiked right away. “Skills? What kind of skills?”
Selara’s expression turned cautious and her voice dropped. “Let’s just say I have experience with certain… unusual injuries. The kind that need a very delicate touch.”
I could tell there was way more to her story, but I didn’t push. Instead I asked, “What about Lyra? How long has she been here?”
