The next morning I woke up feeling better. More rested.
My shift started at eleven. I got dressed and went downstairs.
Hank was already behind the bar, restocking glasses.
"Morning," he said.

"Sleep okay?"
"Yeah. I slept okay. Thanks for asking."
The lunch crowd came in around noon. Regulars filled their usual spots. A few construction workers from a job site down the road. And Trent and Jace, two club members I'd seen around before. They took a table near the window and ordered burgers.
I was wiping down the bar when the door opened and Claire walked in.
She was wearing jeans and a sweater. Her hair was pulled back in a ponytail. She looked relaxed.
"Mira," she said, smiling.
