Miles was the third of the triplets, the quietest among them. His ocean-blue eyes were strikingly similar to Ethan's. He also had a boyish charm that set him apart—a few freckles sprinkled across the bridge of his nose that softened his otherwise striking features.
Despite his undeniable attractiveness, he wasn’t like his brothers. His reserved nature kept most girls at a distance.
That, and Zoe’s ever-present grip on him. She was always clinging to him, and from the way he often shifted uncomfortably when she draped herself over him, it was clear it frustrated him.
“What do you mean, babe? Are you really taking her side?” Zoe stepped closer, her voice laced with annoyance as she wrapped her arms around him possessively.
With disbelief written across Navian’s face, he stared at his brother. He hadn’t expected his brother to speak up for me. A silent exchange passed between them, and with a reluctant sigh, Navian gave a nod to Aya.
“You won’t get away so easily next time,” she hissed as she let go of my hair.
Rubbing my aching scalp, I glanced up and found Miles watching me. For a fleeting second, our eyes met, and something flickered in his gaze—an emotion I couldn’t quite place. Was it admiration? Disgust? Hatred?
Whatever it was, he turned away almost immediately, and I couldn't help but assume it was disgust. It always seemed to be disgust. He loathed me just like his brothers did, so why had he chosen to stand up for me at all?
His expression hardened as he stepped closer. "You should know your place, Marsai. You're nothing but an omega. No one will ever see you as anything more."
My throat tightened, and I swallowed hard. I knew this wasn’t going to end well. Their words have always been my deepest fears brought to life. My legs wobbled as I instinctively took a step back, trying to create some distance between us.
Everyone in the pack knew my story. I was nothing more than the unwanted result of my father’s drunken night with a maid, a child he couldn’t even look at after my mother died giving birth to me.
A lump rose in my throat, the urge to cry clawing its way up, but I forced it down. They didn’t deserve that satisfaction.
But why? Why did they torment me so much? What had I ever done to deserve this?
“I doubt any worthy wolf will want someone like you!” someone yelled from the crowd, laughter bubbling up around me.
Just as I felt the last of my strength ebbing away, another set of footsteps echoed behind me.
“Don’t you guys ever get tired?” a firm voice called out.
I looked up to see Marco, the Beta’s son and a close friend of the triplets, striding forward. His serious expression instantly silenced their laughter, and they turned to him, irritation flickering across their faces.
Was Marco here to taunt me too? This wasn’t like him.
“What are you doing here, Marco?”
“I’m here to make sure you don’t overstep,” he replied, his gaze sweeping over the triplets. “Come on, guys. Marsai deserves respect, just like anyone else.”
Navian let out a harsh laugh. “Respect? For an omega? You’ve got to be kidding!”
Despite the cold air, sweat trickled down my neck as Marco moved closer.
He grabbed my hands. "No, I'm not kidding. We should all treat each other with respect, regardless of rank."
Panic shot through me. I shivered as I yanked my hands away and ran from the hall, the laughter of my classmates echoing behind me.

After crying my heart out in the garden for what felt like hours, I realized there was only an hour left before the mating ceremony. I decided it was time to see Jay, my boyfriend. Yes, my boyfriend, and we both held onto the hope that we’d be mates.
Besides Hana, my best friend, Jay was one of few people who genuinely cared about me. He loved me and never called me an omega like everyone else did.
But today, neither of them was here. Hana had found her mate last year and didn’t see a reason to attend the ceremony, leaving me feeling even more alone.
Jay, who was 19 and hadn’t found his mate yet, seemed like a sign from the Moon Goddess that we were destined for each other. We were supposed to be together.
But earlier that morning, he called, sounding sick, saying he’d be going to another pack for treatment. The timing couldn’t have been worse.
I jogged excitedly to his place, hoping to find him feeling better because I had missed him so much.
"Jayyy?" I called out, flinging open the door to his room.
But what I saw inside stopped me dead in my tracks.
He was on top of another woman, thrusting vigorously as she moaned, her nails digging into his bare skin. They were completely lost in each other, oblivious to my presence. Until I screamed.
"Jay!!!”
He turned his head sharply toward me, jumping off her in an instant. I desperately searched his eyes for any sign of guilt or remorse, but all I found was disgust.
"What the hell are you doing here?" he snapped.
I struggled to focus, and I balled my fists, anger surging through me that instant.
"Why were you on top of her? You weren’t even sick, you lied! Y..you said you loved me, Jay. " I blurted out in one breath, my voice breaking.
Jay shot me a disdainful look, his eyes narrowing as if I were a nuisance. "You really thought I loved you?" he scoffed, letting out a humorless laugh as he ran a hand through his hair.
"Marsai, come on. You're just a weak, pathetic omega. I was just passing the time with you. Besides, my father would never let me mate with someone like you."
I stared at him, my heart shattering into pieces. He’d always claimed to love me—how could this be happening?
“Hope you find a mate who's just as weak as you are. Now, get the hell out,” he sneered.
Tears pricked at my eyes, blurring my vision. My head spun, and for a moment, it felt like I couldn't breathe. This was the worst day of my life!
Without waiting for him to say anything more, I turned and ran, heartbroken. His words echoed in my mind, making me feel worthless. I felt like I shouldn’t have been born at all.
When I arrived at school, my heart pounded in my chest. I hurried to wipe away my tears, keeping my head down, trying to hide from the crowd. All I wanted was to disappear.
The ceremony to discover mates had begun.
"Grant me my own beloved mate, Moon Goddess," I whispered softly to the night, dew forming on the grass beneath my feet. But deep down, I wasn’t feeling too hopeful.
Amidst the noise, I could hear the jubilant cries of others, their voices filled with joy as they celebrated their newly found mates.
“Mate?” a voice called from behind me, and I halted in my tracks.
I turned to see Aya, my sister, standing there with a low-ranking wolf, her face twisted in disdain. “What the hell is this?” she screamed, shoving the stunned boy away. “I reject you!”
I nodded my head, attempting to keep my composure as I took two steps forward. But suddenly, an excruciating pain shot through my chest. It was as if my heart was being torn apart from the inside.
My legs buckled beneath me, and I clutched my chest, gasping for air. "W-What is happening?" I managed to choke out as I collapsed onto my knees, the pain overwhelming my body.
Dizziness washed over me, and my vision blurred into a blinding mix of red and orange, accompanied by a searing pain in my eyes. A scream tore from my throat.
“Marsai, what’s wrong?” a voice called out, unmistakably Marco. I could hear him rushing toward me.
I forced the words out between gasps of pain. "My eyes... my chest."
There was a pause, and when Marco spoke again, his voice was barely a whisper. "Your... your eyes, Marsai... they’re... golden."
My heart pounded even harder, fear surging through me. “What do you mean, golden?”
The crowd erupted into hushed whispers, a wave of curiosity rippling through them.
“Only the moon wolf could have eyes that color. You’re an Osiri, Marsai” someone whispered, and I gulped hard.
