The moon wolf? My mind reeled, struggling to process the words. It couldn't be true. The Osiris, blessed with the moon wolf’s power, had once saved our pack from the undead.
That rare gift from the moon goddess could wipe out entire armies of the undead. They could also heal, and were considered to be really powerful.
Suddenly, a rush of scents enveloped me—hyacinth, leather, lemon, and lavender. They crashed over me like a wave, pulling my attention in every direction and nearly knocking the breath from my lungs.
“Mate!”
I blinked, my heart racing as I scrambled to my feet. The triplet heirs—Ethan, Miles, and Navian—were striding toward me, their presence commanding and intense. Could the intoxicating scents be coming from them?
“Mate?” Ethan’s voice wavered. I could see his expression shifting from confusion to astonishment, as if he were grappling with a reality he never expected.
“Mate!” Navian echoed. His usual arrogance was now replaced with genuine wonder, his eyes sparkling with something I couldn’t quite decipher.
Miles met my gaze, his voice dropping to a hushed whisper. “Mate.”
My head spun at what was happening. Three mates? The Moon Goddess had chosen me to be mated to all three of them?
No, it couldn’t be.
As the realization set in, the air became noticeably tense. My mates were the triplet heirs. The crowd erupted in shock, their cries of disbelief growing louder. Just an hour ago, my boyfriend had shattered my heart, and now I was mated to the triplets. Was this some cruel joke from the goddess?
“What do you mean, Ethan? You’re my mate! I can’t accept anyone else!” Aya suddenly yelled, her voice rising in hysteria. She clung to Ethan, her nails digging into his arm as if trying to anchor herself to reality.
Ethan’s face was stoic. He removed Aya’s hands from his arm with both firmness and gentleness.
“How can this be?” Aya sobbed, her body shaking with the force of her emotions. “She’s nothing compared to us!”
“No no. This is a joke!” I yelled, my voice trembling. “Wh.. why did the Moon Goddess choose me?”
I stood there, dumbfounded, my gaze flickering between the triplets. I had only wanted a mate who would take me away from the family that hated me, not to be entangled with the boys who had bullied me all my life.
Too many things were happening at once. Though I was still reeling from the shock of the mating, I couldn’t deny how much my wolf desired the triplets. I felt my wolf’s jealousy flare as the girls clung to the boys, but the whole situation was overwhelming.
It seemed I possessed the moon wolf’s powers, but why had my wolf never mentioned this before?
‘There wasn’t any need,’ my wolf, Arai, echoed in my mind. ‘I sensed the Morpheus after hundreds of years. It means something is coming,’ she said.
I didn’t know what to do next. Clutching my stomach, I doubled over in pain, consumed by the fear of being rejected. They were going to reject me.
“They’re going to reject us, Arai,” I whispered to my wolf, desperate to shield her from the pain of yet another rejection after all we had endured.
‘Do you think they would?’Arai asked. I narrowed my eyes at the triplets, unable to decipher their sullen expressions. I couldn't stay here any longer.
“Marsai, we know…” Miles’ soft voice reached my ears as he stepped forward. Beads of sweat beaded on my forehead instantly.
Without waiting for him to say more, I took two quick steps back and ran. I ran far away from them, my heart thundering in my chest. There was no way I could spend the rest of my life with the triplets who had tormented me.
As I skidded to a stop at the entrance of the house, It felt as though every ounce of energy had been drained from my body.
I flung the door open and my heart plummeted right into my stomach when I saw my sisters, Aya and Zoe, standing there with their arms crossed. How the hell had they gotten home before I did?
Their glares felt like they could tear me apart. I cleared my throat and let out a deep sigh.
“Aya, Zoe, it really isn’t my fault—”
Before I could finish, a hard slap landed across my face, sending me crashing to the floor. My head spun, and I saw stars flashing before my eyes.
A small cry escaped my lips as my hand instinctively pressed against my cheek, the pain searing through me. Struggling to gather myself on the cold floor, I tilted my head to see an intimidating figure looming above me.
“You really thought a cursed child like you could replace Aya and Zoe?” she yelled, her voice dripping with disdain.
I flinched, instinctively crouching down to avoid her piercing gaze. I hadn’t expected her to be here; she was supposed to be gone for six months, and yet here she was, returning after just three.
“Mother, I didn’t—” My words were abruptly stopped as another brutal slap connected with my face, knocking me back to the ground. I shrieked in agony as she stepped closer, yanking my hair and forcing me back to my feet.
Just then, my father walked in. His hands were shoved deep into his pockets. I could see him glare at me with a cold fury, as his eyes were sharp and filled with disdain. He was going to help me.
“Papa, please help me,” I cried out, But my plea only made Madonna yank my hair harder. I glanced again at my father, hoping for even a hint of compassion, but satisfaction gleamed in his eyes. Just like every other time, they all hated me.
“Papa, it was the will of the Moon Goddess, not mine!” I choked out between sobs as Madonna threw me back to the ground.
Aya stepped closer, her fists clenched tightly. She lifted my chin with her finger, forcing our eyes to lock.
“Shut up, Marsai! Just shut the hell up! You f*****g knew they were your mates, why couldn’t you reject them?” Her eyes widened as she yelled.
“I guess you’re happy now,uh? Ethan broke up with me already! Oh, and guess what?” She asked, as she blinked rapidly. It felt as though she was struggling to hold back the tears pooling in her eyes, frkm falling.
“Miles broke up with me too! Just because of you!” Zoe shouted as she stood beside her mother, stomping her feet against the ground.
I gulped. “M... me?”
I had always despised the Alpha triplets, and they hated me too. I was fully aware they’d be more than happy to reject me in favor of Aya and Zoe. But I never expected them to break up with my sisters. Just because of me?
Before I could process this, my father seized me by the arm and dragged me toward the basement door. With a harsh shove, he threw me into the dark, filthy space that had become my prison.
It was my usual prison, where I was locked away for every mistake I made.
“Those positions beside the heirs belong to your sisters—worthy daughters—not to someone like you, a walking mistake! Do you have any idea how embarrassing this is?” my father bellowed, his voice echoing in the confined space.
“You will stay in there until fate changes. I’ll speak with the Alpha and arrange the marriage we’ve been planning between the girls and the heirs. You cannot ruin my plans!”
My heart plummeted.
“What in the world are you saying, Papa? Why would they be married off to my mates? Do you care about me at all? What about my happiness?” I shouted from behind the iron door, my voice trembling with anger and despair. It wasn’t me speaking; it was my wolf, agitated and desperate for freedom.
“Shut the hell up before I cut off your tongue and sell you to some other pack!” he yelled back. My stepmother and her daughters giggled loudly.
I couldn’t hold back my tears any longer. Arai felt the same frustration; she was powerless against my father. It infuriated her to think our mates could be given away to someone else.
Hours dragged on in that dark, damp room, filled with grief and confusion. My thoughts swirled chaotically, but the most painful one was how could my father be so heartless?
I cleaned my tears as Arai's voice suddenly echoed in my head.
‘Marsai, we need to stay strong. We can't let him break us,' Arai whispered, her tone soothing yet firm.
I answered, my voice hardly audible above a whisper,
"We're trapped here, and there's no way out."
I felt as though Arai was giving me a comforting embrace. ‘We have our mates. They won't abandon us. They will find a way to help us,’ she said with confidence.
I doubt they ever will. They had bullied me all my life alongside their girlfriends, so realizing I was their mate will only make them more furious.
I sighed, feeling ready to give up until I heard footsteps approaching. The iron door creaked open, and my father appeared, flanked by Ethan, Miles, and Navian.
