Mia was finally released today and as promised, I only called Logan. He, Katie and Russ came to pick us up and I was relieved to find out that Katie had taken the liberty of packing our things since that never even crossed my mind with all that's been going on lately.
We're finally on our way to Chicago, to our new life together.
Mia's been sleeping on me for the past couple of hours and while I can't feel my arm, I wouldn't move even if I could. I feel a need to protect her now more than ever and when she's this close to me, I feel like I can breathe easier.
Logan has been on the phone for most of the trip, and when he finally hangs up, I'm the only one that's still awake. He glances up and catches my reflection in the rear-view mirror.
