I haven't been able to sleep for the past forty-eight hours, but I just took the best nap of my life. Being close to Torrance again is like a drug that numbs the pain and takes all my fears away. I'm still weary of the uncertainty ahead of us, but I feel so much stronger with him next to me.
I don't want to open my eyes and face reality, so I keep my face buried in Torrance's chest just a little while longer. While he thinks I'm sleeping, I'm really eavesdropping on a conversation that he's having with one of the Predators.
"She's a loose cannon that could turn on you at any time."
"I know, but if I have a chance of getting away from this life, I have to take it. It's worth the risks."
