Elle’s POV  A jolt ran through me. Like a spark. Like lightning under my skin. My fingers tingled. I looked up at him, my eyes wide. His touch was light, but it lingered for just a second too long. And in that moment, I couldn’t breathe. Did he feel it too? Did it shock him the way it did me? I looked at his face, trying to read him. But he looked away. Just like that. His expression shuttered, like a door closing, and he turned toward the sink. “I’ll do them,” he said simply. Not cold. But distant. I stood there for a moment, frozen in place, my hands hanging awkwardly at my sides. I stared at my fingers like they had betrayed me. I could still feel the ghost of his touch. It was ridiculous. A second. Less than that. But my heart was racing like I’d just run through the forest
