I don’t remember how I got back to the campsite. I know that I was conscious, and that I couldn’t walk. I know that Ares was there, and I think that Jayne was with him, because I faintly remember her scent, but whether she had done anything to help me beyond confirming I was not going to be able to walk was not something I could recall.
Aleks wasn’t with them, and when I woke up in the tent with Ares, I felt like I should tell him that it had been an accident. I didn’t think it would be right for Aleks to suffer because of this. We were both responsible, and he had done the right thing leaving me to go and get help because he was not strong enough to carry me back alone and I didn’t want to make the injury any worse when I suspected that I had ruptured the tendon when the snare caught me
