Mistakes were not something that could be forgiven in Luc’s pack.
He did not give people chances, and as brutal as that seemed, it was for a reason; we would all have been in danger if someone who made stupid mistakes dragged us down with them.
That was one reason I didn’t get close to anybody in that pack.
There was always that threat hanging over us all. Someone you were close to could be gone in a heartbeat if Luc thought they were a liability.
If I had let myself develop the kind of silly crush that Aleks had on me, and Zaahra, and doubtlessly countless other people, I would be too distracted to give things like tracking my full attention.
Emotions like that were dangerous. They were not worth it.
