☆Earl☆ The trip to Kayne’s family cabin was long and tiring but I had just woken up from my nap and I could see that we were close. I took out my mobile phone and called Blake. After what I had managed to find out earlier, I had contacted the other Seniors and we agreed that Bailey Brett was a liar. We also agreed that we would not be forcing Blake to marry the winch. I knew that I needed to speak with both Kayne and Dawn as soon as possible and that was why I was in the car, on my way to see them. It was late, I was tired, and the nap hadn’t done much for me. I listened to the dial tone and when he finally answered, I smiled. “Blake…” “Hello Earl, you are certainly up late,” he teased without much humor, but I chuckled anyway. “I didn’t know that seven o'clock at night, was late,” I commented dryly. “Oh, I am sure that you are badass and stay up till ten!” he continued to tease, and I could hear that he was a bit more relaxed. “Listen, Blake, I wanted to inform you that I found out some viable information that has turned the Seniors onto our side. We will not be forcing you to marry that lying winch,” I hurriedly informed him. “That is the best news I’ve heard all day!” he exclaimed, relieved. “My only piece of advice for you is to stay clear of Bailey. No more interactions with her, not under any circumstances, and that includes locking your bedchamber door,” I said in a warning tone. “I won’t, I promise,” he vowed, and I nodded as we chatted for a little bit longer. When Arnold turned onto the dirt road, I bid Blake a farewell. I sat back and looked out the window as we moved slowly through the forest. I had to admire Kayne for taking Dawn all the way out here. To show her who he is, what his family stood for could not have been easy. However, he may not have revealed anything to her. I wasn’t sure and I didn’t know anything. Arnold pulled up alongside the side of the cabin and before I was completely out of the vehicle, Kayne had come over to assist. “You should’ve let me know you were coming,” he said, and I nodded slowly as I stretched out. My lower back was giving me problems, but I knew he was right. My unannounced visit must be frustrating for him. “I apologize for not letting you know. However, it is with utmost importance that I speak with you and Miss Dawn,” I informed him as he guided me around to the front of the cabin. Arnold followed closely behind us with our overnight luggage. I wasn’t planning on staying awfully long and I was hoping to speak to them bed tonight. An early morning drive back home was all that I wanted. “Talk to us about the situation with Bailey,” he asked, stopping me from entering. I gazed up at him and smiled. “Yes,” “Dawn doesn’t know,” he quickly told me, and I could hear the panic in his voice. “And you don’t want her to know?” I questioned curiously. Watching Kayne, it became truly clear to me and I shook my head. “Oh Kayne, what have you got yourself into?” I asked him although I wasn’t expecting an answer. “I won’t bring up the lie of her being pregnant,” I stated before I gently pushed past him. I entered the cabin and it still looked the same with the exception of the kitchen which had been upgraded and modernized. I immediately spotted Dawn sitting on the sofa in front of the fire and I made my way over to the comfortable-looking armchair. When she saw me, she gasped loudly and looked back at Kayne and Arnold. “What’s going on?” she questioned as she sat up straighter and pulled the soft-looking blanket tighter against her body. I chuckled as I eased into the chair and took a look at the female sitting quite uncomfortably to my left. I could see why both males were infatuated with her. She was quite attractive in a subtle way, but it was her aura that drew me in, and I knew that it was the same with both Kayne and Blake. I felt sorry for the two friends, if Blake ever caught on how Kayne felt about her, their friendship, their brotherhood would be ruined. “My name is Earl, I am a member of the Seniors,” I explained to her. Kayne had taken a seat next to her and I already knew that Arnold would have gone outside to make sure that the perimeter was indeed safe. “From what I understand you are already aware that we are dragon shifters?” I asked her, even though I already knew the answer. Dawn nodded as she eyed me suspiciously. “Good, the Seniors are a group of older dragons designed to assist and guide others. Do you understand?” “Yes,” she whispered out and I felt my own old heart tighten. I glanced over at Kayne and he was staring at her in much the same way I had stared at my mate for many years. I quickly shook my head to clear my thoughts. “Bailey Brett was your roommate during your employment at the Castle under Lord Blake,” I started. I didn’t bother asking for confirmation as I turned my attention to Kayne. “It is my understanding that you and Miss Brett had a relationship of some sort,” “Yes, it was cut short when she claimed she was actually in a relationship with Blake,” Kayne’s words made Dawn flinch and my heart went out to the poor girl. It was then that I realized that Dawn had no feelings towards Kayne and that her heart solely belonged to Blake. “Right, so the reason I am here is just to ask you both some basic questions to help Blake out of this sticky situation,” I looked between them and when they both nodded in agreement I smiled. “Dawn, as the roommate of Bailey did you ever suspect she was seeing anyone other than Kayne?” I asked. “No, we worked side by side on almost every chore. On days off, she was with Kayne and I was with Blake. On the few nights she went out with Kayne, he had come to collect her at the room we shared together,” she explained seriously. I could tell she didn’t hesitate and that was a sure sign she wasn’t lying. “Kayne during the time spent with Bailey did she ever question you about Blake?” I asked him. “No, she asked a lot of dragon questions but nothing ever specific to Blake,” he answered. “And after these times spent with her, did you take her back to her room?” “I did,” “Good, Dawn, during your time spent with Blake, did you two ever discuss his past relationships with the staff members?” I asked. According to Blake, he had told her about his frolicking around and I was curious if she would confirm it. I was gifted with the adoring sight of watching Dawn turn a beautiful soft shade of pink as she blushed. “We did,” she admitted, and I nodded. “And did he ever mention being in any kind of relationship with Bailey?” I asked carefully. “The only thing even remotely related to Bailey that Blake ever said to me was this,” she took a deep breath and glanced over at Kayne, who quickly nodded. “He said that he didn’t fire her because Kayne had asked him not too. He laughed when I asked him if he wanted to keep her around to sleep with her. He denied it, he declared his loyalty to me,” she explained, and I once again admired her honesty and bravery. This couldn’t be easy for her and yet, she had spoken truthfully. “Thank you,” I said before I looked back over at Kayne. “So, is it fair to say that both of you were completely shocked by Bailey’s sudden declaration that she and Blake are in an intimate relationship?” I already knew the answer, but I would need their confirmation on everything. “Yes, at first, I was angry, hence the reason I am here with Dawn. However, once that anger had worn off and Blake had reached out to me. I knew the truth,” Kayne said. “Would you care to share that truth?” I asked for the record. “The truth is that Bailey is obsessed with Blake. She used us, played us for fools, and lied about ever being intimate with Blake,” he declared. I glanced over at Dawn with raised eyebrows, questioning her silently if she agreed with Kayne. “I was also upset, hurt, angry when everything happened. But, after listening to Kayne’s explanation that Blake had been pretending to be asleep, I believe him. You see, when I caught them in the room together and Blake pushed Bailey away, he wasn’t looking at me,” “He wasn’t?” I interrupted curiously. “No, he was looking at her in shock, like he couldn’t believe it was her,” she said and that was all I needed to know. “Thank you Dawn for offering up that piece of information. It will definitely stand firm in this investigation,” I said slowly as I began to get up from the chair. “What investigation?” Dawn asked and I flinched at her question. Kayne threw me a warning look and I quickly thought of something to say. “The Seniors are just investigating the whole situation with Bailey and other ex-staff members. Nothing to be alarmed about,” I said as I casually walked over to the staircase. “Which room?” I questioned Kayne and he hurried to get up and join me. “I’ll show you,” he said. I followed him up the stairs and he entered the first room. Two beds stood on either side of the room. “You and Arnold can sleep here. Dawn will sleep in my parent's bedroom and I’ll take the sofa,” he turned to leave but before he was gone, I had one last thing to say. “Whatever it is that you feel for her, let it go,”
