When Dad got to the school he stopped just by the pavement infront of the school gate and asked me to go down.
It was quite awkward of Dad to have done that and I was about walking off when Dad turned off the car ignition and opened the driver's door.
"Let me walk you off. You know you're Dad's princess" Dad teased as he crossed over to my side.
"Yeah and I'm proud to be daughter of the best Dad in the whole wide world" I said giggling.
"Give me your backpack. I can help you with that at least" Dad said pulling off the backpack from my back.
"Oh yeah let's get going now" Dad added while I kept smiling
"You know when I was a kid just your age, my Mum would always walk me to school and make sure I was sitting right in my before she leaves" Dad said, as we queued up behind some set of students trying to get in through the school gate as well.
"Wow that was lovely of her" I cooed holding unto Dad's strong hands.
"Why did she had to walk you to school on foot?" I asked curious since I knew Grandma had a car
"Well back then we were so very broke that we could barely afford to eat. So we had no enough money to afford a car besides my school was just a little bit far from our house" Dad replied as we walked across the open field just before my class.
"Oh I see. You were so lucky to have a Mum as yours" I said.
"Sure. Just as you're also to have a Mum as yours" Dad replied and a heavy silence broke out as our short conversation ended.
With Dad stopping just metres away from the entrance to my class, I collected my backpack and based him goodbye after giving him a tight hug.
"Awwn" Some of my classmates muttered as I walked in to the class.
"Hey Daddy's girl" Tamara my seatmate whispered as I made to sit on my locker.
"Good morning dear" I greeted smiling broadly
"Morning dear. How have you been?" She asked
"I've been good and you?''
I replied placing my head on my locker
"Awwn."
"What?" I asked confused at her outburst
"Don't tell me you're missing your Dad already with that face you're making" She teased giving me a funny facial expression
"What face?" I asked visibly getting irritated already
"This" she said laughing hysterically
"Tamara just don't start this morning please I beg you" I half yelled
"Hey easy baby girl. I'm just kidding you know I missed you so much" She said laughing out heartily
"I don't care just stop it." I replied feigning anger
"You want me to stop huh?"
She asked coldly
"Huh?" She asked again this time tickling me hard
"Stop! Tamara stop it you're hurting me!'' I cried out but she wouldn't stop.
"Fine no you win!" I replied laughing out loud
"Woah! I won" she yelled giggling
"You such a nerd" I replied casting her an angry look.
"Huh?" she asked in surprise
"You heard me right" I replied laughing hysterically
"Eww… she got me this time" she cooed
"It's a win win now girl" I said stalking my tongue out.
We were still throwing jabs at each other when Sir Mark the mathematics tutor walked in and silence erupted like a wild volcano sending the whole class quiet.
"Good morning Students" he bellowed
"Good morning Sir" we chorused
"How are you all doing today?" He asked
"Fine sir" we all cooed
"That's nice. I hope we all are ready for today's lesson?" He asked casting a glance at my direction
"Yes sir" we yelled
"Good let's get to business then. As you all know, we have a whole lot to cover this time and on the down side we have limited time" he explained
"So today we will be talking about Binomial expansion"
He said and walked over to the whiteboard to write down the topic.
Lessons continued till it was break time.
**Break time**
"Amanda aren't you going out for break?" Tamara asked tapping me gently on my shoulders
"Well maybe yes or no." I replied nonchalantly
"What do you mean by that?" Tamara asked in confusion
"It simply means I'm not accompanying you to the school cafeteria today" I said poking my ears
"Common get up you jerk" Tamara said pulling me by my hair.
"Easy easy girl. I'll go just let go of my hair." I replied wincing in pain
"Better" she replied letting go of my hair.
"Just stand up or else I'll have no choice but to drag you along" she added and before I could reply she yanked me off my seat leaving me with no choice but to follow her to the cafeteria.
Tamara have just been a crazy thorn in my butt who wouldn't let me rest without having me bid to her demands.
Yeah I'm hungry but I wouldn't have gone to the cafeteria if she didn't forced me to.
Taking the doorway just after our class we headed straight to the cafeteria and queued up behind other students eagerly waiting to place their orders.
When it got to our turn I ordered for french fries and orange juice while Tamara ordered her favorite, noodles and Scrambled eggs.
Then we walked over to the right side to sit down after locating an empty table just beside the wall.
We ate in silence only staring occasionally at the boys sitting at the table next to ours and eavesdropping on their conversation.
They were only talking about random things like girls, football and entertainment.
"Do you know any of the boys over there?" I asked trying to strike a conversation with Tamara
"Where?" Tamara asked staring at me in confusion
"There" I said pointing stylishly at the table next to ours.
"Yeah. Why do you ask?" She asked.
"Nothing really just wanted to know." I replied
"Don't tell me you're crushing on one of them girl." She said in a hush tone
"Don't be ridiculous, far from it. I was only listening to their conversation that's all"
I replied sipping on my juice
" Are you sure?" She asked, winking at me
"Yes" I replied
"Okay fine I believe you"
"Whatever" I muttered
"Just hurry up okay. Break will soon be over" I added dropping my fork on the table since I was done eating.
Tamara never eats much she spends most of her time picking at her food and talking so often times she ends up with little or nothing as lunch. I've tried so many times to make her change but she is always proving to be a hard nut to c***k and I've already given up on her.
"Let's get going I'm through" Tamara's said with her voice waffling into my ears.
"Hold on a sec" I said wiping off my mouth with a paper towel
"Good we are set then." I added and stood up and together we plodded out of the cafeteria to our class.
We were almost walking out of the doorway when a boy lanky with a fluffy hair, averagely built and white skinned I recognized to be one of the boys at the table next to ours stopped us and asked to speak with me.
I stared at him perplexed and wanted to walk out on him when Tamara pulled me back and asked me to grant him audience which I did after much hesitation.
"Hi I'm Joe, One of the guys that sat close to your table back then in the cafeteria.
I'm a new student and will like us to be friends" he said nervously.
"Is that all?" I asked giving him a cursory look
" Ye… yeah" he stuttered
"Ok"
"Friends then?" He asked softly stretching his hands for a handshake
"Friends" I replied shaking his hand and made to walk away
"But you haven't told me your name" he voiced out
"You'll get to know soon" I replied walking out on him and leaving him dumb folded
"What was the meaning of the stunt you pulled out there?" Tamara asked on our way back to the class
''Nothing" I replied and quickened my steps, leaving Tamara behind.
The rest of the day in school continued normally till dismissal with me avoiding talks with Tamara and when Dad came I went outside to meet him and we drove home.
