A new week

1090 Words
It was now Monday. This new week came quite fast, I reasoned as I peered into the window just by the side of my room while fragments of morning sunlight poured into my room stealthily lighting my room with it yellowish rays. I had woken up quite early today and it's very unusual of me most times I do wake up early just enough to prepare for school though all that was when Mum use to be around not anymore. I got tired and drew back the shutters in to cover the window and go ahead to prepare for school. ***Moments later*** I quickly finished taking my bath and walked over to my dressing table. Taking out my body lotion, I applied it on my body and then wore my school uniform. Tying up my hair into a pony tail, I combed through it and then stormed out of my room but not after taking a quick glance at my reflection in the mirror and nodding in satisfaction. Walking out of my room, I plodded towards Dad's room but stopped when I got to his doorpost after much hesitation then decided to go down to fix my breakfast instead. Perhaps he may still be in bed and waking him up this early may be a bad idea, I thought to myself as I climbed down the stairs. Afterall we do all meet again at the dinning table I reassured myself. The kitchen was looking all neat and clean with everything in it's original position. "How is this possible?" I soliloquized surprised at how orderly the kitchen was. The last time I checked it was all messy with kitchen wares lying here and there and dirty cups, plates piled up in one corner. It was certainly all of Dad's handwork. He must have arranged the kitchen and as well did the dishes while I was still in school. I reasoned, as I placed my kettle on the burner to heat up water a bit after lighting it while I stood there idlely waiting for it with my arms folded across my chest. When it was ready I turned off the burner and emptied the content of the kettle into a transparent jug and headed for the dinning table to make tea for myself, and coffee for Dad. I don't know why but I just felt like taking tea today instead of coffee. It was customary of all of us here including Mum to have coffee instead of tea on mornings because Mum believes it brought one good luck. Whether it truly worked or not I wasn't sure about that but today is certainly not a day for having that "good luck" of hers. But as for Dad, he had coffee each day even on evenings before he went to bed and it has seemingly become a part of him. And it probably really brought him so many of the so called "good lucks" that came along with taking coffee in the morning. I was still stairing Dad's cup of coffee when I heard someone thudding around the sitting room. It was Dad I guess and he must have gotten up earlier than I had expected. Turning slowly I took a quick look at the sitting room in search of him but couldn't find him. With mouth still agap in perplexity as to his sudden disappearance, I continued with the stairing till I was satisfied then took some slice of bread from the loave of bread lying on the table and sat down to have breakfast. "Seems like someone woke up quite early today" Dad voice waffed into my ears startling me a bit as I paused my initial plan of wanting to sip on my tea. "Yeah. I'm now a big girl you know" I replied smiling sheepishly "Good morning Dad" I added sharply "How are you?" He asked "As you can see I'm doing just fine" I muttered humbly. "Yeah I see" "How was your night?" He asked afterwards emphasizing on the word "night" "Fine sir" I replied. "And yours?" I asked in return "Fine dear" he muttered "Come join me" I said pointing at my cup of tea on the table "Thank you princess. You see, Dad would have loved to join you too as well but unfortunately he hasn't brushed his teeth nor had his bath yet" Dad replied slowly. "Oh" I muttered "Yeah. Let me hurry up so that I can have mine as well when I'm through." Dad cooed "Okay Dad" I said. "I bet it tastes good doesn't it? because I can't wait to taste it already" Dad said giving me a witty facial expression. "I don't know yet. Maybe you should just taste it and see for yourself" I said soothingly. "Hey I'm going back upstairs ma'am" he blurted out and ran off like a prisoner. This man can be something else sometimes. This moment he is all jovial and chatty, the other he is a serious and strong headed lad. I thought to myself as I continued my breakfast. It didn't take long for Dad to have finished bathing before I was through with my breakfast and started waiting for him to have his. And when he was through he motioned for us to get going. The drive to school was just an uneventful one with silly calls coming in from the office I guess and dad focusing majorly on the road after speaking in hush tones to the person on phone. Left alone to my own thoughts, I kept wondering about what the day in school today would look like. Probably Sir Daniel the fine arts teacher will organize an art festival. Peew! that can't be possible because of the upcoming sport festival since everyone will be busy with the preparations. Oh Jeez I haven't even informed Dad yet. Mr Gills said our parents ought to be present that day. I'll have to inform Dad now about it. "Dad" I called out softly. "Yes dear" he replied with his gaze still focused on the road "uhm... Next week is our school's sport festival would you come with me please?" I stuttered pouting my lips. " When exactly?" Dad asked "Mid week that's Wednesday" I replied " Well I can't assure you but I'll try" Dad said after heaving a sigh. " Thank you Daddy. I love you" I muttered smiling broadly. "It's okay" Dad replied and with that the conversation came to an end as we drove to school in silence afterwards.
