Lynn
Wednesday, date night. It always excited me because Kai would come up with a different location for the date, simple but interesting and fun. And we would talk about something different, getting to know each other layer by layer, like an onion.
That day was no difference, seated in my office alternating between typing on the keyboard and staring at the clock on my left. It was a quarter to four and the clock seemed to slugging every time I raised my gaze to look at it. The landline phone on my lacquered desk rang some relief. I picked it up, hanging it between my shoulder and ear while thumbing away on the wireless keyboard.
"Hello, sunflower..."
"It's me girl" Mona said happily her angelic voice ringing in my ear drum, "Have you realized time isn't moving at all"
"Argh! I just want to get out of here!"
"Suffocating indeed, what are you doing?"
"Working on a creative report, am done actually just formatting"
"Am scribbling notes, boring as hell. See you later, someone just knocked bye"
"Bye b***h I love you!"
"To the moon and back!" She shouted and hang up.
Another quick glance at the clock and the disappointment continued. Five minutes away. I decided to take the time to clean my office, put everything in order not to stress the cleaning lady. She was fun, talkative and motivating, reminded me of my mother except she didn't yell in my ear and try to control me. I dusted my desk, L-shaped, pure mahogany with locks and then my chair made of black leather, very comfortable with an additional back support, really ergonomic. The last stop I cleaned was the client’s area and rearranged the books and files. By the time I was done it was a minute past time.
"Finally!" I said quickly grabbing my handbag and blazer from my wooden coat hanger. I was in black and white that day, white top, black cone heels. When I opened the door I almost stumbled into Arthur's menacing shadow and my attempt to prevent it almost send me down on my belly. He held me gently, with care and fear as though he didn't.
"Well, I didn't see that one coming" I said staring at him romantically, I was just kidding with him to see his reaction.
"You want Kai to skin me alive" He said shyly clearing his throat.
It was fun to see how big he was and yet so scared of tiny Kai who was thinner but muscular and cuter of course. His body was perfect, abs, arms, his height and his giant legs. Ooh now I was missing his touch again.
"Hey, don't get any ideas!" Arthur snapped his fingers in my face.
"Ooh sorry" I said readjusting my skirt.
One of the guards handed me a banquet of flowers. I just inhaled their scent and let the pollen get trapped in those tiny hairs in my nose. They were kind enough to just let me have fun. It had been two days since we met. Felt like a year.
"Okay, so where is he? Take me to him" I said marching away, but the guards wouldn't let me go. They blocked my path, "You got to be kidding me, am I being abducted? I got pepper spray and am equipped with karate, judo and other dangerous martial arts..."
"No, it's this way" Arthur said showing me to the stairs that led to the roof top. He was restraining laughter, my daily target was to make him laugh at least once in a week to get rid of his dried animal skin face.
"Why are you laughing?"
"Because I can drop you with a single punch before you pick which style to hit me with....after you mum" he bowed cordially.
"Just a minute, I should tell Mona goodbye. You guys can stay here I don't want you to scare her with all this..." I didn't know how to describe how scary they were with all black you couldn't see their eyes only a set of white teeth whenever they talked.
"Don't take long" Arthur sanctioned taking a quick look on his watch.
"Good, am still not sure what we are going to do at the rooftop. Just so he knows am not going to help him commit suicide"
Mona's office was a floor down mine. I didn't need to use the lift, even in my heels I briskly walked downstairs apologizing and bombarding in my fellow employees. I found her locking her door.
"You psycho, you were leaving without me!" I hissed dragging her away to away from the noise.
"Technically I had not left, I thought you left me" she whispered back.
"No, he send Arthur with a banquet!" I said happily and we giggled together jumping up and down like little playful best friend children.
"I almost forgot its date night, any idea where you're going today so I can crush the party?"
"No idea, but they were taking me to the roof top"
She laughed and almost choked on her saliva. Then followed that weird moment when she realized that I was all serious and the jokes were on her.
"Why the roof top, is it a suicide date or something this time? I don't get it"
We both laughed at that. So loud that those passing by stopped to check if they were growing a tail at their back of their asses.
"Am also curious" I said.
"Yeah, be curious on the way because Arthur is here. Details first thing in the morning" She said walking away, "Don't let me down"
"Never girl, bye!"
"Am sorry to cut you short" Arthur said walking beside me.
"You did well coz I wasn't going to join you any soon"
We went up the stairs slowly. Two guards behind me, Arthur leading the way. He opened the door and behold. Kai was seated on a chair, with a drink in his hands a man holding an umbrella for him. But that was not a spectacle that got me frozen on the stairs. Behind him was a helicopter. A freaking painted blue and white helicopter. He thought it wise to pick me up from work in a helicopter! After I said no to his fancy rides and stuck on using cabs though I could drive and afford a car. He left his seat when I got closer. Then he went on his knees and I felt my heart drop in my stomach thudding in there threatening to rip my belly open. If it was a proposal I was saying no and walking away.
"Hello, love" He grabbed my hand, the other one was hiding something. He kissed it and rose up, "How was your day?" He asked handing me a glass of champagne.
"Great, thank you" I said and emptied the tiny glass in one gulp, the beauty of being free with him, "I really needed that"
"And I really needed you, shall we?" He showed me to the chopper, the pilot waved at me as we got in. Kai helped me with the headphones.
In five minutes were ready to go. The bird was soaring in the sky. The city was looking great from up there, he was holding my hand and we played a small game. Let me call it "guess building" where he'd point at a building and have me identify it. Of course he beat me to it since he had grown up in the city. Funny thing I couldn't even identify the one my office was on after going round the city. And as if he hadn't surprised me enough he fished out ice cream from somewhere under the seat that we ate as we roved over the ocean, ships and boats below us, sharks jumping up and down and hawks landing to pick fish and back up to the air, birds on the shore and people too not mention the emerald green vegetation cover surrounding it.
The pilot took us further away from the ocean to the hills and forests from there we could see the swamps and wild animals crawling everywhere. At half past five he turned us around back towards the city. And that was fun. Too much fun. When we landed on the Watson towers he led me closer to the edge of the building, protected by glass all round. We could see the traffic and a sea of people walking approximately twenty floors high.
"This date came earlier than usual"
"Am having dinner with my parents today and I didn't want to stand you up"
"Ooh I see" I said and licked away the ice cream on his lips.
"I hope you're not mad at me" he said sounding concerned and I just looked at him and kept my ice cream away then cupped his face smiling.
"Am not mad at you"
"Okay, it's not a normal dinner. I would have gone with you. My dad has been crushing at my place since Monday, they are fighting"
"And you are going to solve?"
"Yeah, I have no idea where to start from. I mean it's the first time my dad has asked me for help. It means a lot to me..."
"You don't want to let him down, you want to be a good son?"
"Exactly"
"Don't take his side then. There is a high possibility he is the offender"
"Your guess is as mine. Thank you for the advice"
"You're welcome. So I guess it's goodbye for now?"
"No, am dropping you off at your place on my way. Sorry, you're stuck with me" He winked and kissed me quick9ly on the lips, "I'll make it up to you?"
"No need, a helicopter ride over the city, with ice cream and you, that's a bar raised too high I'm curious to see you beat it next time"
"I've a lot of tricks up my sleeve. You sparked my creativity" he said holding me close as we walked to the lift.
In there, and now that we were not going on a date and possibly end up having s*x, we couldn't let each other breathe. My back was bouncing on the walls of the lift, thank God he had it cautioned. Sound proof and comfortable. Our lips glued in one another, his hands on my butt, mine around his neck. That alarm sound that rings when the lift gets to your destination cut short our fun, but it also gave me a chance to breathe. The doors faded in the walls of the building and in front of us Arthur was standing there.
"You guys had fun?" He asked in his heavy, course monstrous yet calming voice.
"So much fun" I said with my arms on Kai's shoulders.
"Is the car ready?"
"Yes sir. After you" he gave us room and we walked out holding hands.
He looked so innocent as if he had not been kissing the breath out of my lungs. Outside, his Royce was waiting with an opened door. There was something very right with that kissing session in the lift. It was intense, passionate, authoritative and screaming "I want you". Was Kai making a move on me? I mean breaking the contract, no strings attached thing occasional s*x arrangement we had? It was not like it had also not crossed my mind. What if he was mine?
Calm down Lynn, I should have known it was the last time we were enjoying genuine company of each other.
