Chapter 33: I want your attention

1937 Words
Kai Luck was on my side. It was a dangerous game that I was playing but trust me there was no other way. It was hard to lose Lynn that easy without a fight and I was very sorry for Ava. She was ready to marry a man stuck in the past with someone who showed him the other side of life. It was Tuesday afternoon, I was working on some papers in my office. That day, Lynn's advice, I was carrying a small music player to keep me going and it was playing some great Rnb jams that got me shaking my head to the rhythm once in a while. Something else to be happy about was the date night a few hours to go. Having raised the bar so high it was hard to come up with a beautiful idea of a date that was going to blow her mind and just put to an end all the doubt that had been between us. It didn't make me happy to see her sad. The poor girl had rescued me, and the least I could do was make her happy, it didn’t cost me match to make her smile. A rough knock on my door brought me back to reality. "Com in!" I shouted in high spirits. The secretary walked in. She was old in her fifties but still a catch for men her age. That was the only way I knew how to prevent another Karen situation from happening. Employing someone the age of my mother. "Sir, there is a young lady here to see you" she said showing a radiant smile, too good for a woman her age. Some young women wouldn't pull off such a smile. She had this curled brown colored hair at shoulder length, a few wrinkles on her face with calm eyes and a thin nose bridge. Naturally glowing banana shaped lips, medium height and she fancied dresses below her knee caps with doll shoes. "Am not expecting anyone, that's strange Lynn doesn't show up here without calling" I said checking my phone just in case she had called, there was no missed call. It wasn't her then who could it be? "She is not Lynn" "Okay, strange" I said walking from behind my desk to the reception with Beatrice behind me. And behold who was there, in a sheath Jungle green dress, long black hair cascading down her back. She turned around and did the hair flip thing that was really mind-blowing, her rheumy sunken eyes had a glitter of joy, but mine didn’t. "Hey stranger" she waved with the tips of her fingers and walked past us to the office. Beatrice looked at me, smiled and shrugged, I just grinned at her and shut the door behind me. "What a surprise Ava!" were the first words I muttered leaning on the door. She left the couch at the client’s area and hugged me holding my arms into hers. She had done something about her scent or else I'd have known she was around. Witches. Tricks always up their sleeves. "Before you yell at me for showing up at your workplace unannounced, you should know your attention is what I crave for" "Am not yelling..." "You were going to. Anyway, it lunch time why are you still here?" she asked going back to the couch. "I was just finishing up something" I said going to the fridge, "what will you use?" "Bring some soda but we can do better for lunch don't you think?" "Yeah, I'll order some pizza" "Our first date in your office!" She giggled and smiled broadly making herself comfortable on the couch. Then I realized it was the same way we had our first date with Lynn. Though a different office but this was starting to feel like some kind of cliché. And it got me very curious. What else could her presence do? I served us both cokes and ordered the pizza. We sat there chatting happily, she was doing most of the talking which was mainly about that swim when we first met and how she couldn't get that image of me morphing from her head. As she blabbed-yeah blabbed because none of the other things she was saying made any sense- I was looking at her and it occurred to me she had this vibe that just got me off my feet and I was attracted to it. "Have I told you how cute you look when you're not listening" she said cupping my face. It was really embarrassing that she caught me ignoring her. And I had no excuse really. On the bright side, the date idea for date night was already with me. "Sorry, I just..." "You don't have to lie. It's me who talks too much but honestly we have to find a way for this to work am sure you've heard the rumors about the war of species" "Yeah, dad said something about that" "The signs are with us already. Am not trying to push you, as a matter of fact I want you to know that am giving you amble time to get over her but in the meantime we need to co-exist. If am going to be married to you for close to a lifetime I have to know you" She was right. Love was supposed to grow. Her crave for my attention was justified but how was that going to happen? Two ladies one man, both of them craving for your attention because you are not bold enough to choose one of them. The first idea was to be with her on Tuesdays and Thursdays, the other version of our Wednesday and Friday’s arrangement with Lynn. "How about we hang out on Monday, Tuesdays and Thursdays" the suggestion slipped out of my mouth. Didn't know how she was going to take it. The knock on the door came as a savior. A deflection was the exact thing we could use to get out of the awkward moment. Beatrice walked in with the pizza and a bottle of red wine. She served us and left, we enjoyed the pizza in silence watching news from the TV. My phone buzzed and she looked at me. It was Lynn. "Go ahead, pick it up. I don't want her being mad at you and you being mad at me. Funny huh?" "Yeah...hi Lynn. You good?" "Am great, sorry I have to break your heart" "What do you mean?" I said looking at Ava who had that cheeky look on her face. If Lynn was breaking up with me then she was the biggest winner, going to reap all the benefits. "Am breaking up with you" she said and burst into laughter, found myself laughing too, "For two days, I have to go home and see mum would have asked you to come with me but you're busy" "So busy, maybe next time. So when are you leaving?" "Tomorrow morning. You can stop by to say goodbye or I come over..." "I'll stop by in the evening. Am also going home today for dinner so..." "Ooh, another fight?" "No, just a courtesy call to the folks they’ve grown fond of me all of a sudden" "Okay, fine I'll be expecting you then. Goodbye be safe" "Likewise, bye!" Sometimes when you need it the most, stars align and give you that breather you've been craving for. Her leaving town was a perfect opportunity for me to hang out with Ava and get to know her better. Who knows? Maybe she would have turned to be better than Lynn. Okay, that was a stretch. "Why are you smiling?" "Because now we have time to hang out. Unless you have something to do?" "Nothing really. About your Tuesdays and Thursdays offer, am in" she said biting her lower lip. We were yet to do something s****l together. And that day she came with that glow and style that screamed s*x and I was yearning to give in and just have her not because of lust but curiosity of what the s*x was going to lead to. Sleep would be better. "Okay then we meet at home for dinner then tomorrow we go out?" I asked joining her back on the couch. "You don't want to introduce me to Lynn?" "You know that's disrespectful right?" "Not the way you think" she said massaging my chest, her left leg was on my thighs. Her flirting skills were top notch my, corky d**k was already bulging in my shorts and she knew it. The impact of her sluty touch forced me to expel and inhale controlled puffs of air since she was eroding my breathing pattern. "What's your way?" "How about your cousin" "Lynn is smart she will never buy that" "Not if I play it so well. How long do you want to keep this up? Am starting to feel like I'll be the loser here" "Don't worry. I just need time to tell her we can't work. It's easy we're not that deep yet but to be fair to her we have to fall out of this thing we have it can't be abruptly" "Then let me help, she will end it and you won't feel bad" Another side of her was coming into play. It was sinister and scary, she was good at staging, using her mind games to get what she wanted more than strength and that was dangerous. Why? People like her could take anything from people like Lynn who knew no short cuts, just good souls being nice because that's what they were. Not after anything in return for their kindness or trying to impress anyone with their random kind gestures. "Will you take my offer or not?" "Okay, but first what have you done about your scent is there a spell for that?" "Yeah, in Public werewolves and vampires can spot you and follow you so we kind of do that for protection. And speaking of our powers, you can do compulsion can't you?" Where was she headed with that? It was my prayer that her thoughts were not somehow aligned with Arthur's. Too bad they were. "Yap" "Then compel her to forget about you" "Not fair, you have no idea how much my life has changed this few months we've been hanging out with her. Besides she is human, am not aware of what it can do to her" "You really care about her don't you? Are you sure you're not in love" "Am not, look if this cousin thing is going to work you need to know a few things about me" a deflection was necessary. I wished she knew how my wolf was getting fond of Lynn and she had never met him. How much he craved for her touch, they were so close yet so far away. "Okay tell me, everything" "This is going to hurt, am sure there is something you can do about the pain with your magic" I said drawing my claws. That look of surprise on her face was funny. "They are beautiful" She said touching them, "okay, be kind enough to show me something juicy too" she said rolling her hair to the front. She took my hand and buried the claws to the nape of her neck, my iris glowed before I shut my eyes choosing what to focus on. It was the first time I was doing the exchange of memory thing. That's why I forgot or rather didn't know one teeny tiny detail of how it worked.
