Lynn
Four on clock Mona walked across my office in her stilettos and a beautiful white butterfly dress, a shiny gold chain around her neck matching glasses with hold coated metallic frame, a gift that she really appreciated and I didn't regret buying it for her.
"There she is" I said collecting my stuff and handbag, "your fashion amazes me"
"Guess what? This hoes think I got a boyfriend that bought me the chain and gold coated glasses"
"And what did you say?"
"That I got one, am so generous my haters must have something to nibble on, what's good you wanna have Dinner at my place?" She asked as we walked out together.
"Are you asking me out?"
"Yes, you have to see my place in the long run. You're just delaying the inevitable"
"You're right, I'll come for dinner today"
"Good, see ya then!" She said and hugged me before getting into her car.
She had no idea how that made me feel. It was not every day a friend asked me to visit them and know where they lived. To her it was a friendly gesture to me it meant the world. It was another stage to our friendship, full of trust and belief in each other. I waved down a cab at the gate and the trip home started. Leaning comfortably in the back seat, busy typing away on my phone...laughing at funny trending memes. Before I knew it we were at my apartment. The guard at the gate was happy to see me, the ladies at the reception waved and smiled. My social life was improving abruptly, and Kai was to blame. Before his stunt with the T-shirts I was just another tenant they knew from the billboard and now it was like he went all out with our lame relationship.
My apartment was clean and organized as usual...lonely too. Smelt nothing like inhabited. No surprise there, living alone was a handful sometimes and Kai stopping by on Wednesdays and Fridays brought that habitable feeling. There were some areas I didn't even go to for quiet sometimes. My activity heat was around the couch, kitchen and my bed. Speaking of which, when I got in my room my body collapsed on the bed and it bounced on my weight, my arms spread my eyes shut inhaling the fresh air coming in from the open window. I was yearning to get home and see my parents. Those two months had been the longest we'd been far from each other and honestly it was really motivating. My little naive self always felt like without mum and dad around was somehow hard and not fun. But luckily there were friends who had become family in ski city, starting with Kai who was confusing me really, did he feel anything for me or we were just having fun, then there was Mona. What a sweetheart. She was like my big sister I never had, my annoying mum and that best friend you can count on to guide you. All that in one person, a bundle of joy, was I not lucky?
At the office work was also going on well. My department was making moves, big moves and the results were great. The bosses were starting to like me and it felt great that I was good at something else that required thinking and creativity rather than my physical attributes. Your girl was proving those losers who doubted her wrong, she belonged there.
"Lynn, am home!" Kai shouted from the living room.
A wave of relaxation took over my body and an involuntary smile graced my lips. My eyes opened slowly as his scent hit my nostrils. He was smelling like roses in the morning. Kai kissed me on the lips and lay next to me with his arms tucked staring blankly in the ceiling.
"What are you looking at?"
"Reading your future" he said and turned his head to look at me then back to the ceiling.
"Ooh, and what do you see?"
"You, happy with your husband and two kids. A boy and girl"
"Okay, exactly what I dream of. Is Arthur with you, I can hear someone in the living room" I said seating up from the bed.
He sat up too and held my hands into his. Calm eyes, well-trimmed beard and lips so soft, screaming kiss me. Cute as a button, the warmth of his hands was soothing.
"So, you're just going to look at me or talk?"
"Sorry, your beauty consumes me sometimes...most of the time really, anyway I need you to meet someone"
"Your wife?" I asked jokingly.
A wimpy laughter escaped his lift followed by clearing of his throat. That was funny at that moment.
"No, she is not my wife but she is someone important"
"Your step-mum? Ooh my God Kai. I can't meet her looking like this"
"It's not my step-mum"
"Ooh"
"Let's just meet her. Okay?"
A nod sanctioned his request. He held my hand possessively leading us to the living and I wished that moment was being broadcasted the world, on a live TV so that it could seen around what I had. Not mine though but he was worth introducing to the world, as a friend, a husband, a person I knew. Seated in the couch was this beautiful girl, really beautiful from my point of view.
"Lynn, meet my cousin Ava" Kai said.
"Hi Ava, welcome" I stretched my arm coyly for a handshake, her palm was soft as a baby's bum. Her eyes were beautiful too but quite scary like she could almost see through me.
"Thank you, I have heard a lot about you" She said taking her seat.
Kai and I shared a couple’s couch. He still held his arm around me, though she was his cousin he really was marking his territory. How lovely? This would have been better in a room full of models.
"All good I hope? I can be a handful" I said looking at him with a smiley face.
"Good of course, he can't stop talking about you really. Meeting you was my idea, I was like, It’s about time I met this woman who has changed my grumpy cousin to this chubby happy guy!"
We all roared into laughter. Chubby was the last word one would have used to describe Kai. He was fit.
"I haven't done nothing really he has always had it in him. Let me get you guys something to drink" I suggested slipping out of his embrace back to my feet.
"A glass of water will serve me right" she said before I could ask.
"And you Kai?"
"Juice, you know it"
Ava
God he loved her. He just didn't know it yet, you could see the glow on his face when she was in his arms. It meant if I was to have him for myself then I had to work faster before he realized that Lynn brought the best out of him. So what could I bring out of him then? There was a lot a powerful witch like I could do with a powerful alpha male werewolf who had not tapped into half of his power. We could rule the supernatural world together and he looked like someone who enjoyed power. That was one thing Lynn couldn't give him.
She served us drinks and like Kai anticipated she was asking questions to see if our stories match. One hell of a smart human. Had we not prepared she would have seen right through our lie.
"It's six already, your mum and dad will kill us both if we're late for dinner"
"Yeah we should get going" Kai said looking at her...Probably for permission but she already knew he was going for that dinner.
"Ooh yeah, you had mentioned it. Am also leaving for dinner at Mona's" she said happily.
This Mona must have meant a lot to her. I was slowly getting to know people that mattered to her, you know just in case she was going to prove adamant to let Kai fulfill his destiny which to me and my coven was; return the supernatural supremacy. We were tired of hiding in the shadows, living in fear and invisible chains tied around us living like a goat tied to a pen, which can only graze around a certain circumference. Sorry, that was my sub-conscious seeping into my conscience without permission, we were tired of threats from a vampire named Luca. Extinction was not such a good threat was it?
"Bye I guess" Kai said and hugged her, "say hi to your mum"
"Okay, you too. Bye Ava we will hang out when I come back" she said.
Kai was giving me that restrictive look. He could imagine us hanging together. I wouldn't feel safe either if it was me in in his position.
"Sure"
"Great, stay safe, call me" Kai said and led the way outside.
He was so going to yell at me in the car but again, he had no idea what was at stake for me and the entire supernatural race. Luca was close and he was not going to spare anyone, but together we were going to neutralize him easily.
"What was that back there?"
Was looking forward to that talk.
"Don't worry we won't hang out. I'll make an excuse"
"Good, you scared the hell out of me. I really feel bad we shouldn't do that again"
"And what are you planning to say if she asks you where your cousin Ava went?"
"Left town, I'll come up with something" he said focused on the road.
It was obvious she made him happy. To get the happy version of him perhaps I was going to wait a little bit, put up with Lynn while at the same time give him an alternative. That's why I really needed to know her secret. Apart from beauty of course. She was really pretty, anyone who told me I was the most beautiful girl in the world had not met her. What was that thing that made Kai worship her? Come back for more every time. To achieve that, I was going to have to flaunt that agreement we had with Kai and meet her in secret.
"Thank you" I said my gaze fixed to the oncoming traffic.
The roads were getting busy as dusk approached, the sun could be seen in the sky as a brown patch emitting yellow-golden flickers. Beautiful to watch and relaxing to bask in it.
"For what exactly?"
"Trusting me with her, you know until I saw you with her, that version of you was nonexistent. The glow in your eyes, how you talk everything changes when you meet her my guess is she is so important to you no matter the time you two have spent together. It's going to take long to get over her"
"No, sometimes you have to do what you have to do. Being with you secures my future being with her doesn't and right now" he looked at me then on the road, "We can really use a future, one which we don't live in fear like cowards anymore scared of Luca and Ariella. My number one duty is on our Kind, then my own personal life follows"
My eyes were just looking at him as he said those words, every single one of it was genuine, coming from that dark place in his heart where he bottled all the anger.
"So you're willing to give up what you want for this course?"
"You can put it that way"
"Everyone is wrong about you"
"No, I can be worse" He said in a deep villainous voice.
There it was. Our weapon of mass destruction...of our enemies and anyone who stood against us. But first, he had to trust me like his parents did.
