Fated Encounter

Third Person POV It had been two months since the death of her brother Stefan. Two months filled with nothing but disparaging remarks made by her father King Dominic who for some reason blamed Sadie for his death. As though she was personally responsible for it. His words hurt. A lot. He didn't know how much of an effect they had on the poor girl. Because Sadie blamed herself. Why hadn't she seen just how bad a fever her brother had? Why hadn't she tried to sneak past the guards and heal him, despite what Deidre had told her about keeping her abilities a secret? Her brother would still be alive today if she had just healed him with her powers. It would have cost her nothing thought the little girl sadly, and now it seemed it was costing her everything. Her mother hadn't spoken much since the death of her little boy, wandering the corridors of the castle as though in a trance, barely speaking, detached, a blank look on her perfectly made-up face. Sometimes Sadie wondered if she even recognized her or if she thought Sadie was a stranger. Deidre told her to be patient, that grief made people or fae do strange things but that eventually, things would return to normal. Sadie didn't believe her. "Deidre I cannot stand to be in this castle a minute longer" pouted Sadie widening her eyes at her nanny who rolled her eyes "I need to be out in the sunshine, away from the doom and gloom of this place," she said exaggerating. "Hush child" Deidre hissed "do not let the King and Queen hear you say that. The whole enchanted forest is still grieving the loss of the future King" Deidre explained, "it is not meant to be all sunshine and rainbows." Sadie sniffed. She blinked back tears. "I know" she burst out "I miss Stefan too, but I was never allowed to see him, never allowed to be near him. He was like a stranger to me and he was my own brother" she declared in exasperation "how am I supposed to grieve that? I feel bad Deidre" she whispered "I should have healed him. His death is my fault," she told her nanny solemnly "I'm responsible for his death" she added. "No you're not," Deidre said soothingly. "The King and Queen used a healer but the fever refused to break. There is no guarantee that even with the strength of your powers that he would have lived" she said kindly. Oh. Sadie had not known they had sought out a healer. She glanced up at Deidre with her eyes shining. "I need to go out for a little while Deidre" she pleaded. Deidre hesitated. She had been assisting the queen in between watching Sadie. The queen desperately needed her to help more than Sadie did she reflected. Gray was prancing around Sadie's legs, his ears flat along his head, his dark eyes gleaming as he looked at Deidre with his tongue lolling out. Deidre sighed and hoped she was making the right decision. "You can go outside so long as you keep Gray by your side and you don't stay out too long," she told Sadie firmly "that means that you don't stay out when it starts to get dark. If something happens to you. . ." she trailed off. "Don't worry, it won't" Sadie said confidently. Deidre wished she had her confidence. She ran a hand through her disheveled blonde hair feeling incredibly nervous as the little girl, who was not so little anymore, a teenager now, pranced over to the coat rack in the entry hall and grabbed her large overcoat, putting it on and doing up the buttons. Sadie did up her coat and then greeted the guards outside the entrance. "Where are you off to Sadie?" one asked. "I'm just going for a walk," she said absently, wishing she could fly as she saw several fae up overhead. The guards gave her a sympathetic look. They were one of the few that didn't ostracize her but that might have something to do with the fact she was royalty and they were paid to protect her. She shrugged. What did it matter? She put her hands in her coat pockets, Gray trotting beside her as she made her way into the forest, a breeze billowing through her dark raven-black hair. Her hair flew around her face as she tucked it behind her ears, her feet stepping lightly over rocks and mushrooms, crushing grass and small twigs with her boots. The sun was glorious, shining down on her. Sadie reflected she might not have really needed a coat, but Deidre would have worried if she hadn't taken one. She felt no need to hurry, walking slowly, sauntering over fallen trees and up a cliffside. She stopped at a small lake and drank from the water, the water was always cold no matter what the weather was that day, and always refreshing. It never failed to satiate her thirst and she gulped it down thirstily, Gray drinking beside her. He lapped at it, then licked her nose, making her giggle at him. She splashed him and then darted away, making her wolf chase her. It didn't take long for Gray to catch up with Sadie. She had great stamina and could run long distances but she was no match for a fast and agile wolf determined to get his revenge. She gave a small shriek as he leaped onto her, causing her to fall onto the grass face first. "Oof" she muttered, "that hurt gray" she complained. He licked her face as she rolled over. She laughed and sat up, giving him a hug. She sighed. They were in a clearing, a cave in front of them. They were near the boundary of the enchanted forest, somewhere they weren't really supposed to tread. Deidre would have a fit if she knew they had come out here. But Sadie loved it out here. It was so peaceful. Most of the other fae didn't dare walk out here or fly so she was always left alone. It meant nobody could find her either, she thought scowling, thinking of Thorn and his declaration of his feelings towards her. She felt uncomfortable with him being in the castle now and avoided him at all costs. So far she'd been successful but who knew how long that would last? What was that? She leaned forward peering through the transparent wall. Something was happening. She backed away slightly. There were two wolves. One was a large, massive black wolf, the other one smaller but still much larger than an ordinary wolf. The massive wolf was attacked, a chunk was taken out of its shoulder, and its stomach was ripped open. Sadie didn't hesitate. She opened the boundary and allowed the injured wolf in, closing it to the other wolf which was frustrated when it bounced off the wall. She surveyed the injured wolf for a moment. It seemed to be looking around in a daze, taking in the trees and the beauty of the enchanted forest which was completely different from the forest on the other side of the boundary wall. She supposed it could be a little disorientating. She took a deep breath and spoke to the wolf, causing it to whip its head around in a flurry "If you like I could help heal that" she offered in a musical voice, hoping that the wolf was as friendly as she thought it might be. The wolf let out a low growl. Sadie didn't cower. Instead, she stared deeply into its eyes. It appeared stunned that she wasn't afraid of him. Gray let out a low growl and the wolf stared at him confused. "I can heal you," Sadie said slowly, moving towards him "You're hurt and you're losing blood" she added. The massive wolf let out a whine. Suddenly it collapsed on the ground, its eyes rolling to the back of its head. "s**t" swore Sadie and then she clapped a hand over her mouth. Language she scolded herself. Still, she glanced around uneasily. If any other fae saw the wolf they would alert her father. She needed to get the wolf out of her eyesight. She quickly gathered up her airpower and sent it towards the wolf. It went underneath him and created an air stretcher of sorts, which she led into the cave nearby. She gently placed him down and created a light, kneeling down beside him. She was certain due to its size that the wolf was a him. A quick glance at its genitals proved she was right. "You're in bad shape," she said with a sigh "but I can fix you." She reached out with a trembling hand. She hoped he stayed asleep until he was fully healed. She placed her hand against his stomach first, where the biggest wound was. Her eyes flashed silver. A white light glowed from her hands. Slowly his wound began to knit together, his organs arranging themselves back together, tears fixed, fur regrowing, until there was no sign of an injury at all. Sadie breathed a sigh of relief and stretched her arms overhead, getting out the kinks in her muscles. She reached out for the shoulder. This one would prove to be a lot easier, although a lot of flesh, arteries, veins, tendons, and muscles would have to be regrown for it to heal properly. Fur regrew over the shoulder and it was like nothing had happened to the poor wolf. Sadie eyed it in satisfaction. The wolf let out a low whine and Sadie stayed still as it blinked its eyes at her. It had regained consciousness then, she mused. It glanced at her and then down at its shoulder, before doing a double take. Sadie almost laughed at the expression on his face. He looked so perplexed. She felt like this was fate. She was meant to save him. She felt it in her bones.
