“Don’t go too far, Gordon. Mandy is your cousin anyway, so how could you do that to her? And besides, Mandy got the investment by her own efforts. You’re in no position to ask her to give it to Green Group!” Nancy huffed irritably.
Everyone knew clearly that Greens Jewelers would surely close down soon without this investment, so as Mandy’s mother, Nancy would never allow such a thing to happen.
“That’s enough! Gordon has a point. Greens Jewelers is attached to Green Group. Only by using this investment to expand Green Group can we maximize our interests!” Maria said, completely disregarding the explanation of Mandy and Nancy.
In her view, compared with Greens Jewelers, which was merely a jewelry store, Green Group needed even more capital. And this investment could help Green Group out.
“Mrs. Green senior, I have to remind you that the company those rich merchants have invested in is Greens Jewelers, and the one spoken highly by Lord Mayor is Greens Jewelers. Now that you’re going to divert this investment for your personal use, are you going to offend those rich merchants, or to embarrass Lord Mayor?” Elvis sneered.
“Shut up! You’re in no position to speak at our family meeting!” Gordon roared at Elvis, his eyes flashing with anger.
He turned to Maria, and said, “Don’t listen to him, grandma. If it weren’t for the strength of our family, those rich merchants would not have invested in Greens Jewelers. As long as we take full advantage of this investment to increase Green Group’s profits, I’m sure Lord Mayor won’t blame us.”
“Enough is enough! I know what to do.” Maria said.
In spite of her age, she hadn’t gone gaga yet. Upon hearing Elvis’s words, she immediately knew what’s at stake.
Those rich merchants put a high valuation on Greens Jewelers, so if she diverted this investment for her personal use, she would offend both those rich merchants and David, which would undoubtedly make her lose more than she gain.
At the thought of that, Maria said with great seriousness, “This investment can’t be diverted to any other purpose.”
Upon hearing her words, Mandy breathed a sigh of relief.
However, after much consideration, Maria continued, “But Mandy is too inexperienced and too inexpert to spend this huge investment in a proper way. Since Gordon used to be the proprietor of Greens Jewelers, I’ll let him take over Greens Jewelers again. As for Mandy, she will be appointed to be Gordon’s deputy.”
Although Maria didn’t dare to divert this investment for her personal use, she could remove Mandy from the position of the proprietor. Mandy was a woman anyway, and now she was Elvis’s wife, so Maria would never give her a free hand in spending such a huge investment.
Upon hearing Maria’s words, Gordon was overjoyed. As long as he took over Greens Jewelers, he would have the right to decide how to spend this investment. And as his deputy, Mandy would wield little power, not able to be against him at all.
Others who were present were all in favor of Maria’s decision. However, Mandy stood still, an expression of sadness on her face. She hadn’t expected that a few words made all her endeavors fruitless. No matter how hard she tried, her capacity for work could not receive her family’s recognition.
“Ha-ha-ha- How can I ever express my thanks to you for all you’ve done, Mandy?” After the meeting, Gordon walked up to Mandy and laughed gloatingly.
However, the next moment, Elvis, standing beside Mandy, stepped forward and grabbed him by the neck with one hand.
“You insult Mandy again and you’re dead!” Elvis said with great anger, grasping Gordon’s neck and lifting him up.
Gordon’s face turned puce from lack of oxygen. He gripped Elvis’s arm with both hands, struggled to break his grip but failed.
“Just let him go, Elvis. Let’s go home.” Mandy said, afraid that Gordon would be choked by Elvis.
Upon hearing Mandy’s words, Elvis threw Gordon to the ground and then left with Mandy.
“I’ll kill you for that! I’ll kill you!” Gordon sat feebly on the ground, stroking his neck, coughing and yelling.
It was the closest he had ever come to death. He felt extremely scared as well as angry. If it hadn’t been for Mandy, he would have been choked by Elvis, which made his resentment towards Elvis reach the acme. As long as he had a chance, he would undoubtedly let Elvis pay a heavy price for it.
At the same time, with a great deal of publicity surrounding Greens Jewelers, Greens Jewelers became more and more famous. People even came to Greens Jewelers in swarms, wanting to buy some jewelry there. However, because of the storefront renovation, Greens Jewelers was in the temporary closure. So those people had to return home with regret, hoping it could reopen as soon as possible.
Mandy knew clearly that it was quite urgent to complete the storefront renovation. With the help of Elvis, she finally screened out a powerful decoration company.
That decoration company promised to complete the storefront renovation within the time specified by Mandy, but asked Mandy to pay a part of the deposit in advance to prevent her from defaulting on the balance. Mandy knew it was a common practice in the decoration industry, so she agreed and immediately hurried to the accounting department to fetch money.
“For the storefront renovation, I need to draw out some money from the company’s account,” Mandy said to the finance director of Greens Jewelers.
“Sorry, Mandy, Gordon has reached an agreement with a decoration company on the storefront renovation. He has drawn out 50 million dollars for it,” replied the finance director.
“What did you say? What the hell is Gordon going to do with that sum of money?” Mandy said, a tide of rage surging through her.
Without hesitation, she ran to Gordon and demanded angrily, “The finance director of Greens Jewelers said you’ve drawn out 50 million dollars for the storefront renovation. What’s all this about? You’d better give me a rational explanation for it!”
“There’s nothing to explain. I’m now the proprietor of Greens Jewelers. I have the right to decide how to use that investment.” Gordon responded scornfully.
Greens Jewelers was his territory now, so how could he let Mandy boss him around?
