When Gordon went out to see what was going on, he became absolutely rooted to the spot, speechless.
The men alighting from the luxury vehicles were all the famous rich merchants in the city of Murray. And the man surrounded by them was none other than the Mayor of the city of Murray, David White.
“Why did you lead us down here, Lord Mayor?”
“We were informed to attend the conference on the development of the city’s enterprises, so what are we doing here?”
…
Looking at the run-down Greens Jewelers, those rich merchants asked, having no idea of why David had led them there.
Late the night before, they had been informed that the next day there would be a conference on the development of the city’s enterprises. So early in the morning, they had driven to the conference room in a hurry.
However, the moment they had all gathered in the conference room, David had asked them to get on their own vehicles and led them to Greens Jewelers.
Some well-informed rich merchants naturally knew that Greens Jewelers was owned by the Greens.
In the heyday of Greens Jewelers, it had been the industry leader in the city of Murray. But unexpectedly, it was now on the verge of bankruptcy. According to the current situation, it would undoubtedly close down soon.
Therefore, those rich merchants wondered why David had led them there.
“Good morning, Lord Mayor. It is a great honor to welcome you to Greens Jewelers. This way please.” Recovering from the shock, Gordon immediately said with an obsequious smile and made a respectful bow to David.
“Who’s the proprietor of Greens Jewelers?” asked David, without even looking at Gordon. Those who fawned upon others were his pet hate.
Gordon was embarrassed by David’s cold attitude towards him. However, since he didn’t dare to challenge David, he could only vent his anger on Mandy.
He turned to Mandy, and said angrily, “Damn it! Don’t just stand there. Be quick and greet Lord Mayor!”
However, Gordon’s words fed David’s dislike of him. David frowned in disgust.
Instead of being pleasantly surprised, Mandy turned to Elvis at the sight of David and those rich merchants.
As the Mayor of the city of Murray, David was rarely seen in public nowadays. And the rich merchants, who were standing behind him, were all the leaders of various famous industries in this city. Their companies all had enormous financial firepower. Even the Greens didn’t have the ability to gather all of them together.
Therefore, Mandy’s sixth sense told her it must have something to do with Elvis.
Seeing through Mandy’s mind, Elvis smiled at her without saying anything. He squeezed her hand, motioning for her to greet those distinguished customers.
However, before Mandy could step forward, there was another hubbub outside the door, and a dozen military trucks were parked on the side of the road.
The next moment, a group of men dressed in military uniforms appeared in the people’s line of sight.
Everyone present was shocked at the sight of it. They immediately realized the matter was not so simple.
Even David was shocked by it. But when he saw Peter Clarke, the General of the city of Murray, got off a military truck with Martin, he vaguely guessed the purpose of their current visit.
“Hi, General Clarke, glad to see you here. How are you these days?” David greeted Peter with a smile.
“I’m fine. How about you?” Peter said.
As the General of the city of Murray, Peter held military power. Thus, he was superior to David in power.
“I’m in fine shape. But why you have time to come over today, General Clarke?” David asked, though he had guessed the purpose of Peter’s visit.
“I was just doing the rounds, making sure the public security is great. I just dropped by to have a look.” Peter replied, and his expression did not change, not so much as by a flicker.
David knew clearly Peter was lying, but he didn’t expose it. His intuition told him he must take this task more seriously.
As for those rich merchants, none of them dared even to whisper. After all, none of them could afford to offend Peter.
Seeing the leaders of various circles gather in front of Greens Jewelers, Mandy was too stunned to speak. She closed her eyes a second and took a deep breath, making strenuous efforts to calm down.
Then she said with a bright smile, “I’m the proprietor of Greens Jewelers, Mandy Green. It is a great honor to welcome you to Greens Jewelers. This way please.”
“Nice to meet you, Miss Green,” said David, smiling back at Mandy.
However, Peter was shocked at the sight of Elvis. Subconsciously, he raised his arm to salute Elvis but was stopped by the latter in time.
Catching the sight of it, David’s mind began to turn in an endless loop.
After seven years of disappearance, Elvis suddenly appeared again recently, setting off a wide-ranging discussion in the city of Murray. David had also learned a few about Elvis from his spies, so he speculated Martin was at Elvis’s command.
At the thought of that, David remained outwardly composed, though terrifically shocked.
“I heard that Greens Jewelers used to be the leader in the jewelry industry of the city. The jewelry on sale here is as exquisite as expected. Can you help me pick out a few pieces of jewelry, Miss Green? I’m going to take them home for the collection.” David said.
“Yes, such exquisite jewels are perfect for collection.” Several rich merchants echoed.
“My wife’s birthday is coming, so can you help me pick out a few pieces of jewelry for her present?” Peter said to Mandy.
When Mandy heard their words, her eyes beamed with joy. Without delay, she picked out a few pieces of fine jewelry for them.
Taking the jewels from Mandy, David looked at them one by one. He found that the jewels were all delicately-made, a real value for the money.
“I don’t know how to thank you for your help. Do you mind I draw a picture as a gift for you?” said David.
“Certainly not,” replied Mandy with a smile.
When the color palette and brushes were placed in front of David, he started painting immediately.
After a while, a vivid picture was present in everyone’s eye.
