When we got to the packhouse, person after person came up to give me their condolences and I grabbed a drink and sat down in the living room, trying not to be rude, but trying to stay away from people who were going to annoy the crap out of me. Pretty soon Sophie sat next to me and showed me a plate of food but I told her that I wasn’t hungry. So she put it on the coffee table and leaned back against the couch, not saying anything. She knew that I didn’t want to talk, so she sat there silently beside me. She always knew what I was thinking, even without me telling her. Pretty soon we were joined by Cooper and Hallie.
