CHAPTER TWENTY FOUR
She looked radiant, smiling to the point I’d actually see her wisdom tooth. But mum wasn’t the only smiling tonight and as I let my eyes hover around the table, taking pictures every now and then, I couldn’t help but feel excitement radiant in me too. Sure, maybe we’d been an hour late but being here, with my family, in a time when it was not exactly peaceful and still feel this happy, meant the world to me. I’d even caught my somewhat distant brother smile genuinely a few times.
“So, when is the wedding?” Peggy was way more enthusiastic about my mother’s engagement than me.
“Pump the breaks, Peggy. I just got engaged today,” Mum smiled, never failing to show off her ring to anyone who bothered to look. We’d received quite the attention since we got here.
