CHAPTER TEN
My heart skipped a beat in fear as I approached the two boys talking but on noticing me, they stopped, both of them turning to look at me.
“L-Lucian,” I stuttered, coming to a standstill four steps away from them. What exactly had they been talking about? Did Chen call him over to warn him to stay away from me just like mum wanted?
“Red,” he covered the distance between us, his lips briefly finding mine as he smiled.
“You weren’t in school today. What happened to you?” I questioned, stealing a glance at Chen whose neutral expression was not helping my case, not even in the least.
“I came down with a fever yesterday night but that was not as bad as me not reaching you. What happened to your phone?” He pestered on, his voice thickened with worry. Wait, if he had just been down with a fever, then why wouldn’t Alec or Chase juts tell me so? Those pricks. They had my mind turning wheels all day, down to the possibility of Lucian being grounded by his father.
“Mum took it away but that is not important,” I reached over touching his forehead,” Are you okay? Did you go to the hospital?”
“I took some medication and my fever went down. Why did you rmother take your phone?”
I glanced at Chen in hesitation and much to my surprise, he nodded then went to the back of the gym. Maybe he was not a snitch after all. I grabbed Lucian’s palm, leading him outside.
“I thought mum was finally okay with the two of us dating but she found out I went out of town with you and snapped. She took my phone and told me to break up with you,” There was no point in lying to my boyfriend.
“And are you going to break up with me?” he questioned after a moment of hesitation.
“Of course not but until Friday, could we put it down a notch?”
“You don’t mean that, do you?” he reiterated but on noticing my serious expression, he continued,” You are the most sensible person I know but right now you are acting the exact opposite. I love you Red but you gotta realize that your mum fighting you about me won’t stop just because you want to take our relationship down a notch. Its either you love me enough to fight for us or you don’t. These wannabe break-ups are too much and over the silliest things. Every time you keep trying to break-up with me, I’m the one who has to fight for you to stay. I can’t keep on being the one ready to face our storms while you chose to let yourself c***k at the slightest pressure. Make up your mind about us Faith,” he shook his head slightly then walked away, leaving me standing completely star-struck by his words. Up until now I had not realized how true his words were.
“Time to train, Alpha. We’ve lost enough time already,” Chen barked from the gym’s doorway getting my attention.
I swallowed down the bitter pill in the back of my throat, nodded before walking into the changing rooms. After changing, I walked to the boxing ring where Chen was already pacing around, a serious expression on his face.
“Your mum doesn’t want you near that boy,” Chen suddenly spoke mid-session.
“So you are going to snitch on me or what?” I said in between breaths.
“You need to work on balancing your breathing and no, just this once I’ll let it slide. I do not like that Alpha boy even for one second but he is better off an ally than foe. In this werewolf world, having the loyalty of a strong ally is very essential for its survival. I’d suggest you talk to your mother and make her understand the importance of having Lucian’s pack on our side and in more…intimate terms,” He advised.
“You think I haven’t tried? I thought she was finally accepting him as part of my life but then she snapped out of nowhere,”
“Then try harder,” he paused, looking at me daringly in the eyes,” If you can’t handle your mother, then how can you lead an entire pack? I’m really beginning to doubt if putting the little trust, I have on you is actually worth it,”
“f**k you, Chen!” Maybe I wasn’t really the strongest person here yet because I was yet to master the extent of my hybrid wolf would go but that didn’t mean I wouldn’t snap his neck into two if he didn’t quit trying to bring me down.
“We are done for today,” he said, stepping out of the ring.
“We still have thirty minutes to go,” I needed this training to expel my thoughts from what had felt like a fight with my boyfriend.
“Then I suggest you use them wisely,” he said, disappearing into his office.
“f**k!” I cussed, gripping my hair in frustration before making my way into the showers.
Nothing was more welcome in my life right now than the cold feel of water slithering its way down the naked layers of my skin. Maybe it was just the frustration weighing down on me but I found myself letting the tears fall down. How was I supposed to figure out anything when I could barely get a grasp of my own life? Wait, why was I crying in the showers? Alphas were not supposed to cry, right? I needed solutions and with that thought in mind, I stepped out of the shower, changed back into my clothes and went knocking into Chen’s office.
“I told you to-“
“I’m done being told by literally everyone in my life including you on what to do. Its your turn to listen to me Chen and this time as my Beta. This town is not safe and no one can be trusted. Not only are there demons in town but we have no power to fight them back to whatever hell they came from. You were right that we’d rather have powerful allies than foes and that is exactly what we are going to do. First, we are going to make all the packs in town become allies and then we prepare to fight those demons,”
“Are you insane?” He questioned, shock in his eyes.
“Yes, I’m a bit insane Chen and I’ll probably be until the last demon in this town is vanquished or killed or whatever it is that happens to them,” I paused,” Now I just have one half-demon to meet for a cup of coffee,”
Ronald’s weakness was apparently coming into play sooner than expected. This was the time to act and play this game well enough to win. The underworld royalty was going to have quite a surprise when I bring everyone of them down to their knees.
