CHAPTER NINE
Having no phone sucked a great deal and now was the pending thought in my head punishing me. Would Mum even let me go on that camping trip? Considering how pissed she had been at me yesterday, I had no idea what she would do next. All night long I had tossed and turned with no one to talk to. I was already feeling guilty enough for being unable to tell Peggy the truth about her father and Roman was not exactly open to talking to anyone yet. Tuesday was not as exciting and with the principal still not in school, I was even more worried. What was she planning? A demon attack on the school? The town perhaps? I hated not knowing. In addition to having my day sucking, was my boyfriend not showing up in school, having no way to contact him and yet, none of his friends would even help me out.
“You’ve been off the whole day,” Peggy noticed as she drove me to the gym where I always trained with Chen.
“Well, I got no phone,” I shrugged, sighing while turning my face to the side, watching as we drove by past a few people.
“Something else is bothering you,” she pestered on. A lot of things were bothering me but of course she didn’t need to know that.
“I’m okay,” I said.
“The fact that you just said you are okay means something is definitely not okay. So spill now cousin,” she stole a brief glance at me. How could she be so perceptive?
“Nothing is wrong, okay?” I snapped unintentionally.
“Why is it that I feel like everyone is hiding something from me? First your mother is suspiciously too nice to me, then there is you barely talking to me, uncle Thomas keeps avoiding any chance to run into me. I understand Roman wants to be distant with everyone after what he’s just gone through but if there is something going on that I- “
“Lucian’s father is having an affair,” I blurted cutting her off mid-sentence. Knowing Peggy, she wouldn’t give up until I gave her something. The last thing she needed was finding out her father was actually in league with the demons.
She stared at me blankly before her lips parted slightly,” W-what?”
“Lucian doesn’t know about it and I have no idea on what to do. Do you think I should tell him? I feel like withholding this kind of information is selfish. He is my boyfriend, Peggy. What do I do?” I questioned.
“Excuse me but I need a second to actually believe that the famous Mr. Black is actually having an affair. Do you have any idea of what you are talking about? That man is one of the most reputable members of Woodcave town and trust me, if there is one thing I know about him, its that he’d die first before tainting his family’s honor,” she chuckled a bit, almost as though she found the entire spectacle amusing.
“Maybe he is not the saint you think he is. No matter how innocent someone looks, remember that they may be hiding skeletons in their closets. Now, whether you believe me or not, I really do need your advice on this,” I pointed out.
“Wait, are you sure its him though?”
“Do you want me to swear on my life? Because you know I will,”
“Its just so hard to believe. Everyone in town knows how much he loves his wife. I can’t believe I’m feeling sorry for Lucian and his mother right now,” she sighed sadly simultaneously shaking her head slightly in disbelief.
“Well?” I pestered on.
“I think you should step back. This is his family Faith and the last I know he’d want is for you to get involved. If he finds out the truth eventually, then well and good. Just don’t push yourself too much into his family,” she advised.
“But what if it was you?” I tasted.
“What?”
“What if I knew something very terrible that your father has done or is doing, would you want me to tell you?” I felt my heart pick up speed a bit, my nerves dancing on the edges of anxiety, I needed to know.
“To be honest if my father did something terrible, I wouldn’t want you to tell me. I already have too much baggage in my life and the last thing I need is for you to add more to it,” she shrugged as she pulled to a stop outside the gym.
“Wouldn’t you hate me if you found out later and figured out I knew too?” I pestered on.
“Lucian will not hate you for it cousin and speaking of Lucian, there is your lover boy,” She said just as I noticed Lucian talking to Chen inside the gym. Well, f**k! I was going to get grounded for life now.
