"I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel's sake. The great affair is to move."
~ Robert Louis Stevenson
Chapter Twenty
Davina woke up the next morning with a soft smile on her face. Today was her first appointment with her new doctor today here in New York and today she would be able to hopefully see the gender of the babies and she could finally start thinking of names.
After Davina had left to her room last night she had finished the latest episode of Hell's Kitchen before falling asleep, she wanted to distract her mind from Maria's response, even though she said maybe, Davina couldn't help but think that Maria wasn't going to go to the appointment with her and Alice and that mad her upset.
Davina didn't want to dwell on that though as she got ready for her doctors appointment. She kept everything comfortable for her and decided on wearing black sweat pants that she got from Target and a short sleeved shirt that actually showed her bump, something that Davina come to adore as her pregnancy continued.
At first Davina was afraid of showing out in public but more recently as her pregnancy continued she come to love her bump and watching it grow, it amazed her that her body was capable of doing such a thing. She couldn't wait until the twins started moving then everything was going to truly feel real.
"Hey, are you wanting to get something to eat after your appointment?" Alice asked walking into the bathroom where Davina was finishing straightening her hair.
Davina shrugged her shoulders putting the straightener down after turning it off. "I wouldn't be opposed, where though?" She asked running a comb through the ends.
"Maria was thinking we could get Panda Express?"
"Maria's coming?" Davina asked turning around dropping her comb in the process.
Alice nodded her head. "Yeah, she said she was I'll kill her if she doesn't."
Davina rolled her eyes knowing that Alice wouldn't actually kill Maria for not showing up, but it would definitely hurt Davina if she didn't but she wouldn't hold it against her.
Davina left the bathroom and went out towards the living room space area of the suite, Maria was sitting on the couch scrolling through her laptop, her hair put in a messy bun on the top of her head.
She looked up when she saw Davina enter the living room, a soft smile on her face. "Ready to figure out what you're having?"
Davina smiled nodding her head. "Yeah, I have this weird feeling that I already know what I'm having." She said putting her hand on her stomach.
Maria smiled looking back down at her laptop before shutting it and looking at Davina with an apologetic look.
"I'm sorry for being a b***h to you, I was just so upset that you had chosen to move and I just didn't know how to act." Maria said shaking her head looking down at her lap. "I'm a terrible friend because I should be supporting you and I told you I supported your decision and that I understood, which I do, I just— I shouldn't have behaved that way it was wrong of me."
"It's okay Maria, I totally get where you're coming from. I just dropped major news on you and Alice like a b***h and I shouldn't have, I know I'm not thinking rationally about this move but I'm so far deep that there's no turning back."
Maria shook her head. "But it doesn't have to be bad, I can help you if you'd let me."
Davina shook her head. "Maria there's nothing that I need help with I'll be okay I promise, thank you though I appreciate it."
Davina took a seat adjacent to Maria on the couch waiting for Alice to finish getting ready so that they could head to the clinic for her appointment.
Davina really did appreciate the help but there really wasn't anything that Davina could think of that she would need help with that Maria she would actually feel comfortable asking her help with despite her being such an important person in her life, it just wasn't her place to have to step up and help it should be Elio but unfortunately due to selfish circumstances on his end she was unable to receive that help and she wasn't going to put that on anybody else because they didn't deserve that.
"What if I moved here too? I could stay with you, help out with rent and the babies and when the kids are old enough and I have enough saved I can find a place of my own." Maria said catching Davina off guard.
"Maria, you really don't have to that's too much to ask-"
"Davina, I have nothing holding me back in Miami. I'm not dating anybody and I can help out when the twins get here."
It was really nice of Maria to offer to drop everything in her life and move with Davina all the way to New York, it warmed Davina's heart but it also made her feel guilty at the same time. She didn't want to pressure her into something or make Maria feel like she was obligated to just to save their friendship.
"Maria-"
"Please Davina, let me help you."
Davina looked at Maria trying to see if she was at all bluffing about making this decision but all she could see was determination.
Davina appreciated Maria and her offer but this was a big decision and if Maria was serious Davina wouldn't hesitate to put her on the leasing agreement or to have her help out by renting out one of the bedrooms until the twins was ready for their own rooms, she just hoped Alice wouldn't be too upset that they were both moving to New York.
"If you're serious about this Maria than I won't stop you from doing this if this is what you truly want to do."
Maria smiled at Davina's words. She threw her arms around her bringing her into a tight enough hug that wasn't putting any pressure near her stomach.
"This will be great, just you see."
Davina smiled at Maria, she really wanted to believe her words but she couldn't help but feel guilty that she was only doing this because of Davina and not because of herself like she would prefer.
Yes, the offer was nice and was definitely above and beyond, but it didn't stop the guilt that Davina felt as Maria paused her life to help Davina out with hers, it wasn't fair and beginning to stress Davina out.
Davina decided to distract herself from the guilt and stress by the one thing that had been helping her the last couple of months. Her kids.
Whenever Davina found herself in a stressful situation or thinking about something that would bring a lot of stress, she would distract herself by thinking about her kids and what their personalities would be like. Every time she would do that, all the stress that was there or beginning to form would disappear and she was back to her happy easy going self.
She read that when a woman is pregnant the baby would feel every emotion that their mother was feeling, the thought scared Davina every time she remembered it because all she's been doing was worrying or being stressed and it's already not good enough for the babies she couldn't help but imagine how they felt every time she was and that thought alone scared her and made her change the way she handled her pregnancy hormones.
"I really want to have boys." Davina said changing the subject onto something more lighter for her and easier.
Maria paused what she was saying looking over at Davina in shock, just the other day she was saying she'd rather have girls but now she wanted boys? It confused Maria but she wasn't going to say anything negative about it because just like Davina had said, she didn't mind what the genders of her nephew and nieces were just as long as they were happy who they were that's all that mattered because she was going to love them regardless and she knew that their mother would too.
"Really? What made you change your mind?" Maria smiled shifting her posture so that she was angled towards Davina.
Davina shrugged her shoulders not really having an answer for Maria. For the last couple of days she was testing out saying her sons and her daughters and as much as she liked the sound of her daughters, she felt like her sons felt more fitting.
Plus, she wasn't sure if it was a kick or what, but when she tested out my sons out loud when she was alone in the bathroom earlier she felt a little butterflies in her stomach so she was taking that as a sign— but regardless, she was going to be happy with whatever the gender may be.
"I just like how my sons sound." Davina responds with a smile rubbing her thumb along her belly.
"I think having two nephews would be awesome, I could teach them Spanish so that they can swoon the ladies in both Italian and Spanish." Maria smirked making Davina laugh and shake her head.
"Oh god, please don't make my sons into manwhores, I don't think I could handle random girls leaving my house in the middle of the night." Davina said shaking her head as the image popped up in her mind like a mini movie.
Maria laughed throwing herself back into the couch, her hands clapping in front of her like a seal. "That would be hilarious."
Davina shook her head. "What if they are girls?"
Maria stopped laughing shrugging her shoulders. "Same thing, regardless your kids are going to be drop dead gorgeous no matter the genders and they'll be smart and spoiled."
Davina smiled knowing that what Maria was saying was true, others might not think so but to Davina and the ones closest to her, her children were going to be loved and spoiled and it was everything Davina could ask for from them.
Moments later Alice walked out ready to leave. She was wearing one of her signature cherry printed summer dresses and red heels, her hair was curled and the left side was pulled back with a red clip.
Porter had flown in for the last two nights of New York from Nebraska to be with her so they could go back to Miami together and had planned to go have lunch at the park this afternoon. She looked adorable and Davina made sure she had let her know before leaving the hotel.
Excitement coursed through Davina's veins as she sat in the Lyft with the girls as they made their way to the clinic.

Davina sat nervously in the waiting room of Park Avenue Women's Center, Alice was sitting next to her looking through one of the many magazines that they had out for those waiting to look through.
Maria was in the bathroom wanting to empty her bladder out before it ruined her chance of finding out the genders with the rest of them because her bladder had a tendency of doing that for her.
"Did you know that babies and breath and swallow at the same time?"
"Really?" Davina asked, not knowing that.
Alice nodded her head showing her the section in the magazine she was reading where it stated that.
Davina hummed in response as she read the small fact that was under a picture of a baby being bottle fed.
Davina didn't know if she was going to breastfeed or if she was going to bottle feed. She had no judgement towards the woman who chose to bottle feed, she was leaning more towards that option but she also had no judgement towards the woman who chose to breastfeed. She might try to breastfeed when they are first born, but if she doesn't like it or whatever, she'll go the other route there's no shame in that.
Maria had just exited the bathroom when a nursing assistant came out of one of the doors next to the bathroom, a soft yelp escaping from Maria as she jumped placing her hand over her heart as she looked over towards the nurse with a surprised expression.
"I'm sorry," she said with a soft smile pushing her glasses up. She was shorter than Maria and had to look up to see her.
"It's okay," she said shaking her head making her way back towards the two girls.
"Davina,"
Davina looked up at the sound of her name, the same nursing assistant who had scared Maria moments before stood leaning against the same door with a clipboard in front of her. She had a smile as she made eye contact with her.
Davina and Alice stood up meeting Maria halfway before walking through the door.
The nurse was nice, she introduced herself as Amy and took Davina's weight, blood pressure and everything else that she needed before the doctor came in and saw her.
The nervousness disappeared once she was placed in the room where she was going to have her sonogram done, the thought of seeing her kids was soothing and calming her nerves.
Plus she was more excited to finally find out what the gender of her children were going to be.
"I'm betting fifty bucks that they're girls." Alice said crossing a leg over the other leg, she was sitting on one of the chairs on the other side of the room sitting in one of the chairs the clinic provides for the guest of the patients.
Maria sat opposite of her and shook her head. "Hell no, I put fifty on both boy and girl."
Davina laughed from the bed she had to sit on, her shirt was halfway ridden up so that she didn't have to do much when the doctor finally did arrive.
"Are you really placing bets on my kids genders?"
Maria nodded her head. "Yes, you won't let us have a gender reveal so we might as well have a bet."
Davina rolled her eyes but didn't say anything. A knock on the door broke the conversation and the girls went quiet as the doctor poked her head in through the door with a smile before fully entering the room.
"Hello Davina, I'm Doctor Montgomery, how are you today?"
"I'm fine, how are you?"
"I'm good, thank you for asking. So your chart here that we got from your previous doctor, Dr Hanson, it says your sixteen weeks, does that sound about right?"
Davina nodded her head with a smile. "Yep,"
"Perfect," Dr. Montgomery says with a smile. "Now I know the NA already did this but let me take a look at your heart and lungs real fast and then we can go on ahead and do that sonogram, okay?"
Davina nodded her head allowing Dr. Montgomery to do her thing. After she finished typing everything she needed in her laptop she turned the machine on and stood up from her chair.
"Alright, I'm going to send Ashley in and she'll do you sonogram, after that'll come on back."
Dr. Montgomery left leaving the three once again. While they waited for Ashley to come, Alice turned to Maria and smirked.
"If I'm right not only do you have to pay me fifty bucks but you also have to buy me Chick-fil-A."
"I'm not doing that,"
Alice pouted. "Why not?"
"Because you only said fifty bucks not fifty bucks and lunch included."
"But-" Alice begins to protest but before anything could come out another knock on the door is heard and this time a different female walks through the door wearing dark blue scrubs and her red hair curled.
"Hello, I'm Ashley, are we ready to get started?"

Petra got off the plane the instant heat of the Puerto Rico sun hitting her skin making her sigh in relief as all the built up stress and worries she had over the last couple of days lifting off her shoulder as she entered the only place in the world she ever felt safe.
Puerto Rico.
Petra had always loved visiting the Caribbean island and spending weeks upon weeks there. Her father always would take her as a little girl and she's grown to fall in love with the island and the people over the years.
Her family has owned a beach front house on the island for years and whenever Petra found herself in a stressful situation or just simply wanted an escape from what she called life she would escape to that property, hence why she was currently at the airport waiting for her ride.
She was beginning to sweat and wanted to get out of the blazing sun before she was stuck with a migraine for the rest of the day.
"Ma'am?"
Petra turned at the sound of somebody addressing her, her left hand coming up to block the sun from going over her sunglasses as she stared at the stranger behind her with a curious look.
He was young, maybe in his early twenties? Petra couldn't really tell nor did she care, she just wanted to know why he was bothering her.
"Can I help you?" She asked not caring if she sounded rude at the moment. It was hot and she was beginning to start to feel her armpits getting wet, a feeling she hated.
"I'm Jesus, Mr. Rivera has sent me to pick you up from the airport."
Petra gave him a curious look, not wanting to fully believe the boy. She's been here plenty of times to know that he's never sent anybody else to pick her up.
"Do you have proof?"
Jesus nods his head pulling out a black envelope from his leather jacket, the red ink scribbled in the familiar handwriting that Petra knew all too well glistening in the sun as if teasing her.
Petra snatched the envelope out of Jesus hands not caring if she gave him a paper cut in the process as she tore into the thing like it was her first meal in months, her eyes reading the words in hunger.
My Dearest Petra,
I can't wait to see you mi amor. I've sent Jesus to retrieve you, I hope he treats you and my son well. I'll see you soon. Give my son kisses for me until then.
Xxxx-
Diego
Petra smiled at Diego's words folding the envelope into her back pocket as she placed a hand on her stomach, a gentle kick responding back at her touch.
