Davina took her eyes off him and focused on the huge building which had a gloomy aura around it.
She felt a pair of eyes on her and glanced up at one of the windows, but saw nothing. Only curtains fluttering with the wind.
A human would have said it was an illusion, but the same could not be said for a mystical creature like her.
"Mr Franco is in." The man who had brought them, informed.
Only then did Dave realize he had been admiring the house from his car. Quickly, he pushed the door open and got out.
Davina on the other hand, glanced at the building a few more times before shaking her head. Something was really wrong.
She however didn't express her discomfort, but followed behind the two men. The other men had taken their positions outside.
As they walked further, Davina couldn't help frowning. This man deeply experimented with dark magic. Was that the reason he was able to encounter such a feat of destroying a whole pack?
Her question was left unanswered as they soon came across a man in black robe. He was extremely handsome with his golden hair and fluorescent smile.
"My two favorites are here!" The man squeaked and attempted to grab Davina's hand, but the latter subconsciously pulled away.
Realizing what had just happened, she quickly apologized for the man's outstretched hand. "I'm sorry. I'm just not used to strangers asking for a handshake."
The man soon put the awkward situation away and said. "It's not a problem, darling."
Then he turned to look at Dave. A light which Davina noticed, flashed past his eyes as he stared at the younger man.
Davina could swear that it felt like the man was looking at a prized possession, but the moment that thought settled, the look vanished.
Once again, she felt something was wrong with both the castle and the man as they both exuded similar aura.
Dave was the first to reach out for a handshake. "Hello, my name is Dave McCallum."
Jackson extended his hand and shook him slightly. "I'm Jackson Franco, nice to meet you."
Dave hurriedly replied. "The pleasure is all mine."
"Say what? Do you mind joining me for lunch?" The man offered and Dave's eyes widened.
He just couldn't believe he was seeing his role model. Not only that, but they shook hands and he was currently inviting him to eat on the same table as him.
Subconsciously, he glanced at Davina and seeing the latter didn't mind, he nodded his head.
Jackson, on the other hand, threw a glance at Davina before retrieving his eyes. "Over here."
The two got seated and food was soon served. Davina frowned once again at what she saw.
"Sour pork, red wine, lasagna and salad. Dave is allergic to them." She listed out which shocked the man for a few seconds.
Dave was at a loss. All the things she listened were his favourites. What did she mean by allergy? He turned to look at her, but was met with a stone face.
He returned his eyes to the food and began thinking if he was really allergic to them and had no idea.
Jackson stared at Davina for a few seconds to decipher if she had sensed something wrong but seeing she was just looking out for her friend, he called out to the maid again. Then he turned to look at Dave. "What foods do you like, Dave?"
Dave skimmed amongst the foods on the table before it settled on meats. "Meats. I love meats."
Although a little disappointed, the man nodded and sent the maid away since there was no use for her.
The two sat down to eat. Halfway through the meal, Jackson looked over and saw the plate full of meat had reduced by half. "Would you want more?"
The man nodded immediately before Davina answered for him. Davina shook her head at the stupid partner and mate she had. Why was she so unlucky?
Soon, another bowl of meat was brought over. Davina glanced at if and perceiving the familiar smell, she sighed and said. "I want meat too."
"Oh, right." Jackson muttered, then turned to the maid beside him. "Go get Miss Luc a plate too."
Before the maid could walk away, Davina reached over and grabbed hold of the one that was brought. "I don't think there's any need for that."
Seeing the bowl of meat in her grasp, the man narrowed his eyes and became a little suspicious. "That belongs to Dave."
Davina wanted to say more, but guessed her identity would be exposed so she pushed the plate away and watched the man's expression relax back.
"We're still on duty, Dave. Don't overeat or you'd be screwed if we encounter that man again." The girl reminded, causing the man's head jerk up.
"This meat is so delicious, but the thought of that man is indeed scary." The man sighed.
"I never said you should leave it. Mr Franco can have it wrapped up and handed over to you." Davina suggested and stared towards Jackson.
Jackson smiled. "In fact, you can always come here whenever you're tired and want a break from work."
The rest of the food was eaten in silence while Jackson had someone tie up the remnants of Dave's meat.
"Mr Franco, we were told you have something to talk to us about." Davina brought up after they had returned to the living room.
The man nodded and said. "For four months now, this mysterious killer has been making our lives uncomfortable. Unfortunately, no one dared to take up the case as they were afraid of ending up like the victims."
Dave and Davina exchanged a glance before staring into space again. Jackson had loaded his head to avoid the duo from seeing the sly look in his eyes.
"When I heard you two took up the case, I was really elated and quickly rushed back from Dortmund." The man said and chuckled at the lady part. "That was the height of my excitement."
Neither Dave or Davina said anything as they thought of what to say. The same words rang in their heads. This story is totally useless!
After almost a minute of silence, Dave asked. "Are you planning on doing the investigation with us?"
Jackson nodded almost immediately. "Exactly Dave! However, I've grown a little old and I can't do some certain things well."
"Okay?" Dave asked again, but this time slurred it.
Davina watched the man intently. She didn't know why, but it felt like the man wasn't a good person.
"I want to invest in the investigation. I'll make it much more easier. I'll also assign some of my people to you." The man offered.
Davina leaned back on her chair and chuckled within. So that's what he wanted. All he'd do is supply them with enough manpower. When the investigation yielded s good result, he'd take the credits even without doing anything.
Dave as usual was elated at his word. He felt he was dreaming to be partners with a legend!
He got up and so did Davina. "We accept, Sir."
The man stared at Davina, after all they were partners and the latter only shrugged. "In that case, I guess it's been settled."
He clapped his hands and a man in black suit walked in with a file in hand. He first handed it to Dave who signed it after skimming through it.
Davina stared at the paper which had tiny words on it and tried to read some of it, but had the paper snatched away.
"Don't you trust me?" Jackson smiled helplessly.
Davina didn't return the smile as she replied. "I just met you today, isn't it abnormal to trust you?"
"Why would a scam amateurs?" The man defended.
Davina sighed before nodding, then she extended her hand and the contract got placed into her hand. She skimmed through it like Dave, but this time, took note of some important things.
She signed it and handed it over to the man before realizing she hadn't turned to the last page.
The swift smile which disappeared a second after it appeared on Jackson's lips, did not fail to hint to her they had done something they shouldn't have.
"If that's all, my partner and I will be going. We still need to check out something." Davina said, grabbing hold of Dave's hand.
