"Ok I'm planning to go back tomorrow." Davina said after they got home.
Tabitha, who had just gotten out of the shower and was presently applying cream to her skin, paused.
"Tomorrow? You've barely been here for 3 days." Tabitha murmured. "Or would you prefer if I come stay with you?"
Davina waved her aside and lay on the bed. "Forget it."
Tabitha chuckled, she got what she wanted with little or no stress. Life was so beautiful!
Minutes later, she heard soft snoring coming from the bed. At that moment, her phone, which was on the table, vibrated.
She took it up immediately and read the message sprawled across the screen. Afterwards, her eyes lit up.
She placed back the phone on the table and since she was done, she got up and walked towards the bed.
Before she closed her eyes, she glanced around the room.
Outside her villa was a security man who seemed to be inspecting the place but had in fact been listening to the conversation going on.
Sensing they were done talking, he turned and walked back towards the darkness.
The next morning, this time everyone woke up naturally. They had their bath and got ready for work.
"What did you talk to Harriet about yesterday?" Tabitha asked on the way to the station.
"I saw something weird and thought of finding out the meaning." Davina shrugged.
"You later found out?"
"Yeah." Davina shook her head. "She assured me it wasn't something to be worried about."
Tabitha nodded. Minutes later, Davina's phone rang. She lifted it up to see the caller was her Mom.
"She called me yesterday at work. Said she had been trying to reach you but you never answered. I spent the whole afternoon reassuring her you were fine and with me." Tabitha chuckled, happening to glance at the latter's screen.
Davina frowned as she watched the phone stop ringing before it started again.
"It won't hurt to answer it." Tabitha clicked her tongue.
Davina sighed and swiped the answer icon.
Both Davina and Tabitha listened to the woman wail and curse at her daughter for not answering her call.
Tabitha glanced at Davina who now had a helpless look on her face and mouthed. "Tell her you needed to be away from your phone in order to concentrate more on your mission."
Davina's eyes lit up as she gave the latter a thumbs up and said into the phone. "I've been so busy, mom. I have this case I'm currently investigating and I'm often away from my phone for days."
Only then did the woman's voice pause. Seconds after Davina said that, a sigh band from the phone. "You can always back out whenever you want to,."
Davina nodded. "I know. How's dad?"
The woman went mum for a few seconds before answering. "He's fine."
The discussion didn't continue any longer as the older woman had to go do something and hung up first.
"You should try to talk to your father sometimes."
"Why should I talk to someone who doesn't want to set his eyes on me even for a brief second?" Davina retorted with a sardonic smile.
Tabitha sighed and focused on the road. Ten minutes later, he pulled up outside the station and watched Davina get down.
Recalling something, she said. "I had the fence of your house decorated with little gold stones. I think it's now a little safer for you."
"Did you just say with gold?" Davina asked in surprise.
"Rest assured I had them painted with a black color before installing them." Tabitha chuckled and Davina breathed out a sigh of relief.
"Thank God. See you after work." She waved and walked into the station.
Dave was already in and was seated directly opposite her. When she took her seat, he raised his head and smirked. "I first you today."
"Eh." The lady replied disinterestedly but that didn't stop the smile on the man's face.
The place which had a little background whispering suddenly became quiet as Isabella made her way in.
Davina smacked her forehead lightly relieved that the noise had stopped. Without lifting her eyes, she knew there was someone headed towards her.
Isabella walked up to her and slammed a piece of paper on the table. "Duel holds tomorrow. See you there."
She left almost immediately, but didn't forget to shoot a deadly look at Davina.
Davina didn't reach out to take it, but Dave did. After he read it, his eyes widened in shock. "How could they do this?! They're clearly looking for a way to get rid of you! Just like I thought, this place is scum!"
Surprised by his outburst, she reached over to take the paper and read the wordings on it. "Is this how much they hate me? Firearms are even allowed."
"This is them going to kill you and term it as a duel." Dave mused.
Davina glanced at his angry face which looked manlier at the moment and chuckled. "It's good to see that you finally care."
The man blushed unconsciously. "But that's not what we should be worried about. In fact, you need to withdraw."
"I can't withdraw. I would never withdraw. Stay calm, nothing can possibly go wrong." Davina consoled, then quickly raised up the paper she had been reading earlier. "Do you mind if we go check out the condition of the recently deceased family?"
"Like I have a choice." The man snorted but a small smile tugged the corners of his lips.
The duo walked out and they decided to use Dave's car as usual. After starting the car, the man drove towards the gate and came across Jonas.
Their eyes met and Jonas expected to see an apologetic look in his eyes but was instead shocked by the raw hatred oozing out from Dave's eyes.
Davina had probably noticed him, but for reasons best known to her, she never attempted to lift her head.
After Jonas moved away from the entrance, Dave sped out.
