The first interrogation didn't go well as Tabitha was visibly upset. The next day, she arrived at the station and walked into the interrogation room.
This time, Jonas and one other man whose name was Gerald sat opposite her.
Gerald was a junior so he had to wait for Jonas to say something first. Jonas took out a notebook and started. "I'm sorry for yesterday. Hope we're not wasting your time?"
Tabitha stared boredly at him. "For a fact, you are. You can save my time by getting straight to business."
Jonas nodded and asked obediently. "Yesterday, you said something about hundreds of me not being able to take her down. Can you please elaborate?"
Tabitha chuckled. "That? It was entirely a slip of tongue. My sister is actually quite weak, so..."
Jonas bit down on his tongue. Other than being a really strong vampire, Tabitha was also well known in the commercial world. She also commanded a lot of power. This was just too hard.
"Okay. Lastly, what's your relationship with her?"
"She's my best friend. Can pass as my sister."
Jonas nodded and scribbled something on the notepad, then he looked up again. "I think our session has ended. If we have any other thing to ask, we'd do well to contact you. Thank you for your time."
Tabitha said nothing as she got up and walked out of the room. Jonas' eyes, which had been dim, suddenly brightened. "What do you have to say?"
He had long noticed Gerald had something to say to him, but couldn't as he didn't have a go ahead order.
Humbly, Gerald replied. "I've been wondering, she seems to know a lot. Why don't we send people after her? To keep an eye on her."
Gerald had reasoned that since the relationship between Davina and Tabitha was so deep, the latter would try to contact her.
His thoughts weren't generated by the fact he wanted to help the station solve the case, but because he could be awarded if they could find a scapegoat to pin the case on. If that happened and the case was successfully closed, he would stand the chance of being elevated.
Unfortunately for him, Jonas easily saw through his thoughts and snorted. The idea was far from being a good one also. Given Tabitha's deposition, she'd weed out the stalkers and kill them. That was something he wasn't willing to risk as they would only die for nothing.
"There's no need for that." He muttered and walked out of the room.
Gerald gritted his teeth as he stared at the latter's back until he was out of sight. He na Jonas had entered the station the same time, however, Jonas managed to pull off a few tough cases and thus, got promoted.
Even though a lot of people swore he carried it out without the help of his father, people like Gerald who were filled with bitterness refused to believe them. After all, those in authority often abused their power.
He walked out a minute later and headed towards the supervisor's office. He knocked and received a 'come in' from the man.
He wasn't surprised to find Isabella in it as the lady had been frequenting his office a lot after she was demoted.
"Gerald, what brings you here?" The elderly man said, taking his eyes off Isabella.
Gerald exhaled sharply. "Can I take a seat, sir?"
"Oh yes, please do." The supervisor nodded.
Gerald obliged. After he sat down, his face became much more serious. "I have a request, sir."
"Go on, Gerald."
"A few minutes ago, Senior Jonas and I rounded up the interrogation with Davina's close friend, Tabitha Stevens. I feel she's hiding something and I beg to take some men from the station to follow her closely as Davina is prone to contact her." Gerald quickly summarized.
The supervisor said nothing, but asked slowly. "What did Jonas say when you informed him of your plan?"
Anger surged in Gerald's heart. However, he could only press it down as he retorted. "He adviced me not to. However, I know he's only scared the station would loose men if they're found out, but I can assure you that we'd be really careful."
The supervisor sighed and took off his glasses. He wiped it clean and put it back on. "I understand you, but don't forget that Tabitha Stevens has a really weird life. She's someone who isn't afraid of the force. There's no telling what she'd do if she finds out the station had people trailing her. One, it's an offense on its own and secondly, if she kills them, it'd be regarded as self defense."
"Tabitha Stevens is just a weakling. If I can get a few strong superiors and people with the same rank as me, I doubt she'd be able to stand a chance!" Gerald said conceitedly.
The supervisor went quiet. These people were entrusted to him, if anything happened to them, he'd be held accountable. He had also been receiving a lot of pressure when the series of killings began, it was really a bag load of stress.
He was about to reject the proposal when Isabella butted in. "I do agree with him. Let's also not forget this case is a very sensitive one. Even if people die, as long as we're able to get our hands on Davina, the higher-ups won't hold you accountable."
Just like Gerald, Isabella also had her selfish motives. First and foremost was to kill Davina and the second was to get her rank back. But even if she didn't manage to get her rank back, as long as Davina was dead, she would be satisfied.
The supervisor stared from Isabella to Gerald and from Gerald to Isabella. "I'm placing my hopes on you. If you don't capture them, and you have my people killed, your fates would be worse than death. Do you accept?"
Isabella and Gerald shared a glance, then a crazy look made its way to their eyes. They turned to look at the supervisor and nodded. "Deal!"
