Dave opened his eyes to a strange and weird environment. His eyes first clashed with the ceiling made from bamboo and dried leaves latched tightly onto it.
He quickly removed his eyes and scanned the whole room only to notice it was the same materials used in the building of the room he was in.
Memories from the day flashed into his head. He recalled leaving for work that morning, following Davina to her house, the fight with the strange man and how he slayed the family of four. Davina had probed him for them to leave.
After he jumped down the window and ran a few miles, he blacked out. Recalling his hairy body earlier, he quickly checked himself with a hint of doubt.
Although confused, he got up and walked towards the exit of the room. There was nothing in the room other than the bamboo made bed he had laid on.
Just like he thought, Davina was outside roasting an animal over a fire. She seemed to notice him as she turned around and beckoned him to come closer.
"How are you feeling?" She asked when he got closer.
The man touched his forehead and groaned. "My head is pounding. What happened? We should be in the station reporting what had happened!"
Seeing his self righteous look, Davina chuckled. She reached beside her and took out a newspaper, then extended it towards him. "Take a look at this."
The man lowered his head and read the wordings on the paper. As he read, his expression was that of horror. "What are they saying? You have no hand in the deaths of those people!"
Davina chuckled and moved the antelope she had caught earlier on the fire. Just then, her phone rang and she took out a hefty phone.
Unlike the modern phones, it was impossible to track it. And most times, calls won't connect but a voicemail the person left, would drop.
This time, it was a voicemail. "You're no longer alone. The station has tracked Dave's involvement in the case. They also have some people on me. Just be safe out there, I'd let you know if there's any development.."
Undeniably, it was Tabitha's voice and the phone had been given to Davina by her.
Dave was also perplexed wondering how the goodwill he had done had gotten him into trouble. He glanced worriedly at Davina. "Are you sure we shouldn't report to the police? We're being wrongly accused!"
"Dave, the whole country is on the lookout for us. We're termed as extremely dangerous and should be reported when sighted. Leaving here is a suicide attempt." Davina said with a sigh.
Dave scratched the back of his head, aggrieved. How had his simple life turned to being on the run. Life's really short.
"Don't think too much, we'd think of a way out before you know it." Davina consoled and grabbed a plate.
She cut a piece of flesh from the antelope and threw it on the plate. It was evenly cooked and the worms in his stomach grumbled perceiving the enticing aroma.
"There's a bowl of water behind you. Wash your hands before you eat." Davina reminded.
The man nodded and turned around. After washing his hands, he tore apart the succulent pieces of flesh in relish.
His transformation had not only kept him in slumber for three days, it had also sapped him of his strength. Being asleep for that long with no way for her to give him any food supplements also made him weaker.
She glanced at the man and raised a brow in worry, hoping he hadn't lost memory of what happened like the last time.
She however, didn't ask him. When the man was halfway through his meal, he suddenly remembered something and paused.
He glanced towards her and asked. "I had transformed into a fearsome animal. Hope I didn't scare you?"
Davina almost laughed out, but bit down on her tongue recalling she was pretending to be a weak partner in front of him.
"I wasn't. In fact, you looked really great that way. Shiny golden fur and menacing red eyes."
No sooner had she finished speaking did the man lock eyes with her. "You're pretending. I remember you telling me you'd explain more when we get out of there alive."
"Hahaha!" She couldn't hold it in any longer and laughed out. "Smart man. I really underestimated you."
The man snorted. "I'm really shocked. How could I go from a full grown male to a.... Werewolf."
Only after he said did he realize something was wrong. He had once mocked Davina for believing in them.
"You don't seem scared. Or are you hiding it well?" Davina chuckled.
Dave chewed on the remnants in his mouth for some seconds before replying. "All my life I've been weak. I love how it made me feel powerful. So yeah, I'm not scared. I read a lot about Werewolves. Strong, agile, their eyes are...superb. Can see through any surface. An alpha is even more impressive!"
Davina listened with rapt attention. "Then why did you laugh at me when I said something about believing in them?"
"They're too good to be true. But now, it seems it's really true." Then he scoffed. "Who knows if Vampires are also real?"
Davina shook her head, refusing to tell him the lady he referred to as her mother, was actually one of them. One of the strongest vampires in her time.
After they had finished eating, she packed the plates and washed them with the water she got from a nearby stream.
"So, it turns out I'm a werewolf. I'm kinda curious, which I'm I? Sire? Lone? Lycan?" The man asked with a slight shrug.
Davina was about to say something when her ears moved. She glanced at a part of the forest which seemed steady, grabbed something beside her and shoved into Dave's mouth.
"Chew it!" She ordered. Almost immediately, the bushes moved and a group of people sprang out from it.
