Men with fierce dispositions sprang out from the bushes. They rushed towards the duo with killer looks.
Without wasting time, one of them kicked Dave in the knee and as a result, the man gave in and knelt on the floor.
No sooner had he done so did a man emerge last from the bushes. He glanced at Dave and for a split-second, his heart shook at the man kneeling.
He shook the feeling off and glanced between the two, asking gravely. "What are you two doing in my territory?"
Davina hadn't been made to kneel, but had been held on both arms by two men. She glanced at the man who seemed to be their leader and said sincerely. "We're really sorry for trespassing, but we needed a place to pass the night so urgently. We'd leave as soon as possible if you deem it fit."
The man's gaze deepened as he sensed she was one of them. On the other hand, Davina had said all those because she recognised who the man was. Gregor Mendel, a powerful Lycan who had many troupes in his disposal.
It was said that he was a legitimate son. But until today, no one could confirm if the rumors were true. But regardless, even Alpha's had to pay him respect whenever he visited.
Gregor stared from Davina to Dave and from her to the man. Finally, he asked. "What are you doing with a human?"
Davina breathed out a silent sigh of relief. The herb had worked and Dave's identity was hidden. Dave on the other hand tried to raise his head and raise an objection but got pushed down by the man beside him. Sensing the killing intent emanating from the man, he didn't struggle.
"He's a friend of mine. We're both running from the cops." Davina muttered, lowering her voice at the end to sound pitiful.
She didn't expect it to work on the man, but unexpectedly, the man reached out and cupped her cheeks. "Running from the cops? You look familiar."
Just then, one of his men walked closer to him and whispered something into his ears. He smiled afterward and the man retreated.
"You're the Detective, Davina Luc who was said to murder the family of four." The man chuckled, raised a brow and glanced behind her to look at Dave. "And that should be Dave McCallum."
Davina wasn't intending to hide anything so she nodded and said solemnly. "Yes, but we really didn't do it."
Gregor stared at her with a smile. "I don't care if you're lying or not, but the fact you're in my territory makes me accountable to you. Do you have anything to pay me with, or should I do what I want?"
Davina bit her lower lip until it bled. She had totally forgotten this man was hated based on the fact he coveted any pretty lady he laid his eyes on. She was about to say something when a figure ran to stand between her and Gregor.
Her heart jumped into her throat when she saw it was Dave. The man however, had a fierce look in his eyes. "Where I come from, this is r**e!"
Gregor blinked twice at the man as he felt a sense of suffocation in his heart, but just like before, it was gone before he sensed where it came from.
Gregor sensed nothing as he watched Dave sent to his knees once again by a kick from one of his men.
Dave on the other hand was feeling despair. He had felt powerful just before they came, what went wrong. Just as he was feeling down, he recalled Davina shoved something into his mouth.
"Please, don't take whatever he says into account." Davina pleaded nervously, casting a warning look at Dave.
"He seems like a lot of trouble, Ms Luc. Getting rid of him now will save me time and future accidents." Gregor said, unsheathing his sword.
A man walked to Dave's side and held his head upright. Gregor said nothing else and proceeded to swing it at Dave's head. However, he stopped just inches away as Davina knelt right before Dave breathing heavily.
Gregor was known for being heartless. A nursing mother meant nothing to him, and so did the sight of lovers. In fact, it repulsed him.
With displeasure, he berated. "What are you doing? You really don't think I won't dare kill you and him?"
Davina crawled to his feet and grabbed onto it with watery eyes, inwardly gnashing her teeth. "Everything's my fault! Not only had I brought him into your territory, I hadn't also informed him of the rules. If there's anyone who's to die, it should be!"
Dave heard her and was astounded. He couldn't move as the man beside him gripped him tightly, but he managed to voice out. "What are you doing? This is all my fault! If I hadn't..."
"Shut up, Dave!" Davina thundered, trying to hide the nervousness out of her voice. She cussed Dave inwardly for trying to jeopardize their lives the more.
Dave also groaned and kept mute. His eyes shot towards Gregor as he made a solemn promise to himself.
"Please do not kill us. We'd do anything you ask of us. Just don't hand us over to the cops or kill us!" Davina pleaded.
Gregor stared at his unsheathed sword. He had never unsheathed it without ending a life and their case wouldn't be an exception.
Wordless, he swung it again and brought it down. A head slid off and rolled on the ground.
.....
Becky Luc, Davina's mother, instantly shut up from her slumber. To her surprise, she saw her husband and a handful of their maid servants around.
"What happened to me?" She asked, massaging her chest.
"You slumped." The man said solemnly.
Sensing something off about his tone, the woman glanced up at him and said. "Spill!"
"Davina and her partner, Dave McCallum, are both on the run after a murder was said to have been committed by them."
