The woman's eyes widened as she sprang up from the bed. "What do you mean?" "According to the news, her neighbors saw her drive in with Dave. No one saw any other person go in. So they came up with the conclusion the two might have gotten into a fight with each other and ended up killing the family. Or, they were involved with the ongoing m******e. Regardless of whichever, they're going to jail." The man summarized. The woman sighed and sat back on her bed. She asked, disheartened. "Is there nothing you can do?" The man's eyes hardened as he got up. "She's no longer my daughter. I disowned her years ago! Her affairs have nothing to do with me!" Then he left. Becky stared at his straight back bitterly. Just then her phone rang and she stood up to get it on the counter. Seeing it was Tabitha, she hurriedly answered. "Daughter?" Tabitha said something which made the woman's eyes light up. She hurriedly ran into her closet and reappeared later with a new pair of clothings. Without saying a word to anyone, she left the house. She stopped before the huge building. Everyone recognized her as Tabitha's mother so she was quickly led to her office. Tabitha seemed to be listening to something when the door got kicked open and the woman stumbled in. She paused and stared at her before gesturing for her to come closer. Wordlessly, the older woman inched closer to her and Tabitha stuck a stud into her ear. The secretary who had been left standing awkwardly at the door, nodded absentmindedly and shut the door as quietly as she could. "This is so scary." Becky groaned minutes later walking over to a cushion. Tabitha nodded. "I think so too. But it's better. On the other hand, mother, I think my craving for blood is back." Becky's eyes shot up at her. Tabitha, who always had a haughty and proud look, lowered her head in embarrassment. She had been a crazy blood drinker years ago until she met Davina. Davina had concealed herself well enough that she had no idea the latter was a werewolf. Then, the latter had just been stripped of her powers so she was just a little stronger than an average human. In her quest to quench her thirst, she had attacked Davina. Davina hadn't tried to stop her, but let her drink some of her blood. She had been touched by such kindness that she stuck with Davina despite the latter complaining. Coincidentally, she had met Becky one of the days and Davina had shared the ordeal with her. She had expected to be chased out, but surprisingly, the woman made some herbs for her and often brought some pints of blood from hospitals. She was a vampire and it was impossible to completely stop her intake of blood, so the woman would let her drink a pint of blood twice a day. It has been working until days ago when she assaulted one of her workers and milked her dry. She had thought it'd stop after she took.the herbs, but it didn't as she had ended the lives of a young girl earlier that morning. Becky got up and walked towards her. She placed a hand on Tabitha's neck and shook her head. Becky was a combination of a werewolf father and a witch mother and as a result, she was a hybrid. Accompanied with the identity was her acquaintance with medicine which helped many in the pack overlook her other side. "I don't know what's wrong, Tabitha, but I sense something is really wrong." The woman sighed, shaking her head. Tabitha lowered her head feeling more unlucky. Davina was on the pursuit for something she didn't do. Not only could she have prevented it, but she could've killed the werecat when she had the chance. She extended her hand and grabbed Becky's waist, then pulled her closer. "I'm sorry, mother." "There's nothing to be sorry about." The woman consoled, stroking her hair gently. "By the way, have you found your mate?" Tabitha snorted and shook her head. "I think he's either dead, or I'm soulless." "The next time you repeat this, I'll disown you!" Becky rebuked, resisting the urge to give her a hard knock. With a chuckle, Tabitha agreed. ..... Police Station. The Supervisor's Office "How's the case going?" The older man asked. Jonas frowned as he recalled what had been circulating throughout the station. "You gave Gerald the permission to stalk Tabitha Stevens?! Dad, are you out of your mind?!" His father grimaced and finally put down his pen. "I know what you're thinking, Jonas. Here's the thing, there's absolutely no way I would've sat and did nothing. What would I tell the citizens? The relatives of the deceased and the higher-ups? When Gerald presented the idea to me, I was at first skeptical, but now, I think it's one of the best decisions I've ever made as I would be able to shirk the blame." Jonas nodded and rubbed his forehead. "It still sounds like a big risk to me." The older man chuckled, picked up his biro and continued writing his report. "Everything is a risk, son. How's the investigation going?" "Fine, father. There seemed to be an extra party in the room. I spotted about three different footsteps. I've confirmed two to belong to Davina and Dave, but the other, which evidently belongs to a man, hasn't been matched." Jonas reported. His father put on a thoughtful expression as he thought of something. "Don't say anything about your discovery yet. Let Gerald and his people dig up some truths, if it connects, you continue. If it doesn't, the case would be marked as closed." "What if the series of killings continues?" Jonas asked cautiously. "If it does, the case won't be closed and I would plead with the higher-ups to send some more professionals. Speaking of that, we'd be expecting someone later today. A female." A knock sounded on the door immediately after the word rolled off his tongue.
