"Come in."
His words were followed by the door being pushed open and a lady walked in. Her long, chestnut brown hair was tied up in a pony unlike Davina who always let hers cascade down her shoulders.
Jonas shook his head wondering why he was comparing the two women. With a sigh, he decided not to check out the woman again and turned to his father. "It's really strange the higher-ups are sending ladies over to us now."
Back then, female cops were alienated because most of them climbed up the ladder through promiscuous means. Not only did they use it to get into the station, most of them tried hitting on their seniors and the previous supervisors. As a result, they had been alienated totally by the male staffs.
"I was told the officials who were often bribed have been replaced. The law is being upheld for now, so people like Davina Luc and Calister Mooney, are totally honest and down to earth." His father replied.
Any other person would've felt occured being talked about in front of them, but not Calister. She had her signature warm smile. "Mrs Roderick, I've reported to the station like I was told."
"It's good to have you here, Calister." The man nodded and pointed at his son. "My son here, Jonas, would show you around the station. Hope you don't mind?"
Calister smiled, but didn't turn to look at Jonas. "I don't mind, sir."
The man turned to look at Jonas and smiled slyly. "Alright then, I'd leave it to you Jonas."
Jonas glared at his father and got up. This glare only lasted for a second, but the other two noticed it.
Calister hurriedly interjected. "I remember I have some files to sort out. Why don't we start the tour at a later time, Jonas? Or better still, cancel it."
Jonas opened his mouth happily about to agree to her second sentence, but his father beat him to it. "It's okay, Calister. In fact, Jonas, show her to her space, please!"
Faced with the man's threatening eyes, Jonah could only nod with a sigh. "ok."
Then they walked out. Roderick sighed and rubbed his forehead slightly while staring at the spot Calister had stood.
Before she was transferred, he had received an order: Treat her well. Nothing more was said, but those words were enough to show the importance of Calister. Who knows, she might even be his stepping stone to leaving the damn station!
Thinking of the glamorous life Jackson was living, the man's eyes dimmed. Just you wait Jackson, I'd get back at you!
.....
In the woods, underground
Davina fetched water from a well and poured it into a bucket with the aid of a bailer. The bailer was only slightly bigger than a coffee mug, while the bucket was bigger than the average size. What was more, it was made with wood!
Not only was it extremely heavy, it was also hard for her to fill it up!
Just as she was feeling despair, Dave sauntered over to her pushing a trolley. "How are you holding up? I feel like I'm gonna slump and die!"
Davina grimaced. She had no idea her quick decision to find somewhere to sleep had gotten them both in danger.
She stared at Dave's exhausted face, her mind traveling to what happened that day.
Few hours ago
Gregor swung his sword at Davina's head, but surprisingly, the blade moved in another direction and cut off another man's head.
Gregor frowned hard as he stared at the head which rolled and stopped beside his foot. Then he looked at Davina again.
He swung his sword at her again, the same thing happened and he lost another man. This time, most of his men subconsciously retreated for fear of ending like the other two.
Feeling something wrong, the man wiped clean the trails of blood from his sword, sheathed it back and asked. "Who are you, Davina Luc?"
Davina swallowed hard breathing nervously as her eyes traveled to the heads on the floor. The fact that one of them could've been her, frightened her so badly.
Not receiving an answer, Gregor called her with gritted teeth. "Davina Luc!"
Davina snapped out her daze to stare at the man who almost took her life. Although feeling resentment, she knew she and Dave owed their lives to him.
"I'm just a lonely Werewolf whose strength has been sapped."
Gregor stared at her quietly before nodding. He turned to the man holding Davina and instructed. "Take them with us."
...
Dave shook Davina lightly seeing she was out of this world. Dave pushed away his hand with a sigh. "I'm fine. We really need to plan on how to leave here. I don't trust Gregor, he might hand us directly to the cops."
Dave sighed. To be honest, he wasn't prepared for a refugee's life. He rubbed the space between his forehead. "I know Werewolves have very good hearing. Aren't you scared someone would hear our discussion?"
Tabitha smiled at him. "That's why I'm talking to you now. Everyone's all distracted and it'd be extremely hard to eavesdrop on us as they're so many people around. Just go back, I'd find a way to get us out of her."
Someone walked up to them and asked with a poker face. "Are you Davina?"
Tabitha glanced back at her and judging by the dark shade of clothes, the woman was also a worker like them. "Yes, I am."
"Elder Gregor is asking of you." The woman replied and walked away.
Dave instinctively grabbed Davina's arm. He didn't know why, but he felt his heart ache. Not having any reason for the heartache, he termed it as his concern for her.
"Will you be fine?" He asked anxiously, his eyes jerking from her to the entrance of Gregor's house.
Davina also had a bad premonition about the meeting. She hadn't forgotten the way he looked at her earlier. She bit down hard on her lips wishing the man before her could just assume his glory.
