Chapter 22On Sunday evening, Wolfe stood at his kitchen window, watching the small courtyard darkening under the cover of dusk. He was thinking of tomorrow. His last day at the YBR. Tomorrow, he’d be inside that old building for the last time. It had fallen apart so fast. He’d been a fool to believe in happy endings. Being an idealist didn’t pay well these days. He’d be better off in his new job, in downtown Vancouver. The job required nothing of him but to show up and handle his case load. Paperwork and meetings, that’s all he had to look forward to. No challenge. No defeat. He’d be home in two weeks. His mother had already moved her sewing machine out of his old bedroom. He was to stay with his parents until he found a place. Stay with his parents. In that house he’d yearned to escap
