Episode 12

I wasn't too lucky as they called the police and they stopped me quickly. They took me down from Eclipse. I tried to break free hysterically, it wasn't just I wanted to break free, but I couldn't stand to be touched by anyone except my father. The sheriff looked at me in disbelief. He knew exactly who I was. But he's done his job, and he put the handcuffs on me. He told me about my rights, and seated me in the police car to take me to the police station.

Just when they locked me in, I had a thought. This rat could harm my dad and the horses. Eclipse couldn't take anyone. I was afraid they were going to shoot him as no one could handle him except Kaidan or now me. I didn't care about myself, but he said he would harm my father if I spoke, and I knew he hated Eclipse.

He is the only one that I've got from Kaiden. I had to take care of him. I had to make sure he was okay. I couldn't let him die. I asked a police officer to send the sheriff to me. They've done what I said. I was in a good position as in a small place like this, they knew me well, and I bet they didn't believe I could steal something from the Caldwells. They knew why I was with Eclipse. The only thing that caused the misunderstanding is why I ran away with him.

I started crying, I couldn't hold it back any longer. In a few minutes, I saw the sheriff coming.

"Joe, please help Eclipse, he's just a horse, he's done nothing wrong."

He looked at me in disbelief. Maybe they thought I'd gone mad because Kaiden left me.

"Serena, you are in trouble, you have to save yourself and not a horse."

"I don't care about myself, just don't let Eclipse be killed."

"Serena, Eclipse is a very expensive horse. I think no one would dare to touch him without the family's permission, but you are in trouble. Hamish said you planned this for a long time, as you have always been there to get the horse used to you. They only let you in because the family know you, but at the moment the family isn't here and you are not a family member of the Caldwells, so you have nothing to do in there. You have nothing to do with their horses. Understand?"

I couldn't take it any longer. I was dead already, I didn't even care what the family thought about me. It seemed like that wasn't enough for Hamish, he ruined my whole life, and he also wanted to put me in prison.

"Joe, I want to ask you something."

"What is it, love?"

"If I tell you something, can it be a secret? Could you give protection to my dad and the horses?"

"What's wrong, Serena? Tell me."

I closed my eyes and I couldn't stop my tears. I felt dirty. I felt worthless.

"He raped me."

He opened his eyes wild.

"What?"

He nearly shouted.

"He raped me nearly every day for a month, but he said if I told anyone he'd harm my father and the horses. He is a sadist. He is torturing me physically every day."

I couldn't talk anymore. I just slipped down on the floor, buried my head in my arms and cried hard.

"Miles, Connor, get Hamish right now."

He shouted. He squatted down next to me and gently wanted to help me to stand up. I couldn't stand to be touched, not even if he is a sheriff, so I pulled myself away and stood up by myself. He looked at me in disbelief, but he didn't try to touch me again.

"Come on Serena, I'll take you to the hospital."

He led me to the car and drove to the hospital quickly with me. There was a smaller one in the neighbouring town. When we arrived, a doctor came to us very soon. Joe told him something, but I couldn't hear it. He came to me. I looked at him frightened. And I looked at Joe.

"What's wrong, Serena? He's just going to have a check on you."

But I shook my head.

"Please, can I have a female doctor?"

They just understood what I was afraid of. The doctor looked at me sadly, then nodded, then he left. Joe stayed with me till a female doctor arrived.

"Hi Serena, I'm Dr. Agar. Could you come with me?"

I nodded and stood up slowly. She seemed to be kind. She gently put her hand on my back and led me into the examination room. After we finished, she sighed. She also saw my scars on my body.

"I'm really sorry Serena, you can stay with us for a while. We can also send you someone who you can talk to."

I shook my head.

"Am I okay?"

She stood next to me and caressed my face.

"Yes Serena, but we have to take some further tests just to see if you've got any infections. But you have to rest. I'll arrange that you can stay here for a night at least."

I nodded.

"Can I offer you some contraceptive pills?"

"Please. I hope I'm not pregnant."

"No. We just need to make sure you're not getting pregnant for the last few days. And we have to repeat the test again in a short time."

I sighed. She helped me to get up and we went back to Joe, then she handed me to a nurse. I've got a separate room where I could be on my own. Since Hamish started torturing me, that was the first time I felt at ease.

Joe and Dr Agar's conversation

"Dr. Agar, what's happened?"

"She was definitely forced to have s*x not long ago, and I could take a sample of the semen. But she also has many injuries on her body."

"So, actually the s****l abuse is proven."

"Definitely. And as we have a sample, it is really easy to find out who it was. But Joe, she wasn't abused just sexually, she had many scars and clearly visible damage to her body. There is even a clearly visible “H” letter cut on her left thigh."
