Chapter Nineteen: Confession

Her journey back to the UK was torture for Alina. Grigore had told her in no uncertain terms to “stay in touch”. She had no doubt that he’d keep demanding more and more money from her. She could probably get whatever money she needed from Charles, but would she have to spin some new web of lies, just as the rest of her life was beginning to come into place?
As the BA flight back into London touched down Alina closed her eyes and tried to think how best to proceed with this crazy situation. So far lying hadn’t gotten her anywhere, she told herself; but would the truth hurt Charles too much?
