Chapter 2 Finally 18

910 Words
(POV) Amethyst I was woken by an unfamiliar voice. I jumped out of my bed looking for the person. There was no one there. With wide eyes, I asked who was there. “My name is Sable,” my wolf resonated in my mind. I am your wolf Amethyst. I have waited so long to meet you. Sable, I love your name. I figured, since I was already awake, I went to the bathroom and took my shower. I went to my closet and chose a lavender sundress and sandals. I put on a little make-up not much, I like just enough to go with my tan complexion, then added some lip gloss to my lips. I could smell the birthday breakfast that mom cooks every year. The scent of pancakes, bacon and eggs. I excitedly walked down to the kitchen where mom was finishing up the eggs. Dad was sitting at the table with his newspaper. He glances to the side when I walk in and they both yell Happy Birthday! Ame, that's what everybody calls me. I smiled big and said, Thank you mom and dad, I love you guys so much. Mom asks if I was excited about my shift tonight. I am sure mom, my wolf's name is Sable and I can't wait to see what she looks like. Maybe today I will also meet my mate. Dad huffs and says I'm not ready to lose my baby girl. Mom slaps dad on the shoulder, Oh Jessie stop picking at our daughter. Any mate would be blessed to be with our daughter. She's special. Just how special mom and dad really didn't but would soon learn how special. The Fate of the Fated I walked out of our house when I was hit with the sweetest scent, chocolate and cherries, my two favorite desserts. I followed the scent towards the packhouse. Desmond stood, not alone, but flanked by his close friends, his Beta-in-training Jeffery Chadwell, and a group of younger pack members. Standing closest to him, her hand casually resting on his arm, was Seraphina Bradshaw, of the Temptess Pack. She was a picture of conventional grace: the daughter of a powerful allied Gamma, beautiful, charming, and the woman Desmond had already been openly courting—his Chosen Mate. Her presence was a clear challenge to the very idea of a fated bond. Desmond was everything the pack adored: tall, with thick brown hair, eyes the color of forest emeralds, and an aura that commanded immediate submission. His alpha strength was already palpable, a hot, radiating power. When our eyes met, the world stuttered. Sable was jumping up and down in my head, then said the word MATE. The air crackled with a powerful, undeniable energy that slammed into my chest. It was the Recognition—the electric, soul-deep certainty that told both our wolves, Desmond and Sable, that we were fated. I felt a dizzying surge of joy and relief, the end of my isolation finally at hand. I met his eyes, my own violet gaze shining with hope. Then, the recognition ended as swiftly as it began. Desmond’s face, initially shocked, hardened into an expression of utter revulsion. He physically shook off the bond, stepping away as Seraphina tightened her grip on his arm, her eyes narrowed in triumph. His voice, already deep and powerful, echoed in the silent room. "A beta's pup with freakish eyes," he sneered, his gaze sweeping over my modest form. "I feel the bond, yes, but the Goddess is flawed if she thinks this creature is fit to be my Luna. Seraphina is my choice. She brings alliance, dignity, and beauty to the Alpha line." He walked closer, his Alpha aura crushing, his emerald eyes boring into my purple ones. "I, Desmond Conrad, future Alpha of the Wildfire Pack, reject you, Amethyst Walker, as my mate and future Luna. You will not stand beside me." The rejection was like being hit by a thunderbolt of icy agony. It wasn't just my human heart that shattered; the howl that ripped from my throat was Sable's, a devastating cry of pain and betrayal that made the wooden frames of the lodge shudder. I fell to my knees, tears of pain and humiliation streaming down my face. My purpose, my destiny, and my secret hope were annihilated in a single, brutal declaration. I spoke the words I, Amethyst Walker daughter of Beta Jessie & Gemma Walker, reject you, the Future Alpha Desmond Conrad, as my future Alpha and mate. Desmond fell to his knees in pain as the mate bond broke. This, I realized, was the origin of the regret. It wasn't Desmond's regret, not yet. It was the crushing, defining regret of Amethyst, the wolf who was promised everything and given nothing but shame. I made it back home and walked in, my parents sitting on the couch in the living room. I didn't let the rejection show in front of my parents. Sable is still hurting in my head. I smiled and told mom and dad I was going to go take a nap until it was time to go to the Hollow grounds. That's where all wolves of all ages go to shift for the first time. It's a beautiful place. When the moon shines down on the ground, it's majestic in more ways than can be explained. I spent a lot of my time hiding from the world.
