OUT OF THE CASTLE INTO THE CAVE'S JAWS

1327 Words
After this strange and near-death experience, Grendale couldn't understand what happened. It took a while before the realization hit him that One-horned porcupines, despite being famously known for their deadly horn attacks and immense strength, weren't capable of lifting their humongous body weight from the ground. Grendale took a deep breath of relief, knowing that for the time being he was safe from the ugly beast and turned towards the pot. Now he had time to take a look at the item for which he was going through all this trouble. He carefully tried to look at what was so special about this pot that was radiating such bright energy. GOLLY!! Whatever was in there was glowing like the sun. If he carried it out like this, not only was he in danger of accidentally spilling whatever was inside, but also its brightness could even blind him, making him lose his way or attract more deadly beasts. Grendale tore a part of his tunic and tightly covered the pot's mouth. Now the only problem left was....... how to get out of here??? The porcupinosaur was still lingering around watching his every movement with deadly eyes, leaving no space for escape. While looking for a way to dodge this 'Pointy Death', Grendale couldn't help but notice numerous stalactites hanging from the ceiling. Boy, it looked so blunt yet strong enough to poke a hole in the floor. If he could somehow direct this beast to hit the walls, then it could definitely produce an impact that would bring all those stalactites zooming towards the ground and pin the beast, making his escape easier. Grendale noticed an empty sconce (torch basket) hung on one of the side walls and flung a rope at it (Good thing he had brought his basic survival tools with him). Once the rope was securely wound around the sconce, he jumped and ran along the wall to the middle. The porcupine immediately charged towards it with full force, but Grendale was agile enough to jump back in time as the beast hit the wall with a shaking THUD!!!. CRACK!! The wall cracked all the way up and the tremble shook the ceiling with great force. Many stalactites flew down with a zoom and hit the floor around the beast. The floor cracked and with a loud thump and CRASH!!!. The floor sank a little, trapping the beast. A few minutes later, when the dust settled, Grendale heaved the pot onto his back and began moving to the exit. He could hear the porcupinosaur groaning from the hole in the ground due to the impact. Finally, after a lot of climbing and descending, he reached the front yard. " Sheesh, how I missed the fresh open air ". Grendale took a deep breath and thought to himself. In a span of few minutes, he reached the old man's hut and knocked on the door. When the man let him in, he put the pot on the floor and between gasping breaths asked him to activate the escalator. The old man was overjoyed at his success. He immediately made sitting arrangements and gave Grendale a glass of water with a few herbs which he had grown. Taking the herbs, Grendale felt his strength return and felt better. The old man thanked him with all his heart and offered to help him by activating the escalator, so he could proceed with his journey. With the escalator activated successfully, Grendale quickly crossed the river and reached the other side. The rest of the journey went smoothly without any hitch, except the part where he almost got eaten by a carnivore plant and had to break all its teeth. Grendale reached the outside of the ancient cave of ruins. It is said that this cave was built by an ancient king as a dungeon for keeping life sentenced criminals underground. And he had also made a secret chamber for keeping one of his prized secret possessions. Before he could enter the cave, he came across an old statue on a stone platform which looked very weird. This statue was built like a circle and had a huge gap in between. As soon as Grendale stepped on the platform, two lamps kept on either side of the statue burst into flames and a blue veil type of thing appeared covering the hole in the statue. Thinking it might be dangerous, as soon as Grendale stepped away from the statue the blue veil disappeared. Grendale paused for a moment before moving on towards the cave. Once inside, he lit a torch and went further. While moving, Grendale could see many bones and skeletons of people and animals. While he was still wondering what could have happened to them, he suddenly hit a dead end. " Oh great. Now what shall I do?". He looked around searching for a way (if there was any) to move further. At one point, he felt the hairs on his neck standing. Something was wrong here, he could feel it. Unfortunately, there was darkness everywhere, so danger could come from anywhere. Grendale raised the torch higher to create a wider range of light and squinted a little to make out anything moving in the darkness. But nothing moved, still the feeling of something watching lingered in his mind. Trying to be on guard, he slowly turned around to continue searching for a way, when suddenly a loud !! THUMP !! And a slithering of what sounded like 10 feet came from behind. GRACIOUS..... Grendale immediately drew his sword and turned around flashing the torch to find the source of the sound. A little distance away, he saw a small mould of what looked like a small broken peak of a mountain moving towards him. Right now in place of Grendale, if there was anyone else, he or she would have screamed their lungs out or would have fainted on the spot. But this is our brave Hero we are talking about… ha… what do you all think? What could he have done? ' Grendale 'SMILED' at the incoming danger and did a few swings with the sword before pointing it towards the big red body designed - Caniball cave lurker. Cave lurkers are just like a cross between a spider, a crab and an octopus. They have huge peak-of-the-mountain shaped red bodies with weird scales and 6 uneven eyes and the only thing they do is cling on to the ceiling of any dark place and wait for their prey to come inside. Once inside, they jump down to block their exit, while slowing installing cold fear of death in its victims that can freeze anyone's spine, rendering them unable to move, and then they devour them. The cave lurker came slithering towards Grendale and seeing he had a weapon, it stopped a little, eyeing it with its uneven eyes. Then it again proceeded to parlyse him with fear, but Grendale stood bravely facing it with his sword raised. Seeing its trick not working on him, it swung one of its legs to smash him towards the wall. But acting quickly, Grendale dodged it and went to the other side. It once again tried to smash him. But again Grendale dodged it and jumped to the opposite side. The cave lurker roared and swung three legs towards him. Grendale swiftly dodged all three and kept himself safe from its attack. How long could he keep dodging it? He would soon run out of energy and options to escape. Before he could come up with a plan, one of the legs caught him in a surprise attack and sent him crashing to the wall. As soon as he hit the wall, the torch went flying out of his hands and fell down on a ledge high above the dead end wall. Wanna know what happened next? Will our hero survive? Stay tuned for the next episode. Cheers.
