ELGAMORA - THE HIDDEN DUNGEON IN RUINS

1338 Words
Grendale noticed the ledge the torch fell on and realized that the way forward he was looking for could be up there. Seeing a way to survive the creature, Grendale quickly got up and turned to face the lurker. If he can somehow manage to get the cave lurker near to the dead end wall, he can jump upon it and get to safety. He noticed a few rocks here and there. Running quickly and fast while dodging the legs, Grendale quickly rounded up the rocks and piled them near the wall. The cave lurker roared and slammed its legs towards him. Only this time, instead of dodging the attack, Grendale allowed himself to be smashed. He went and hit the wall hard and fell down like rags. The lurker, expecting him to be dead, went to pick up its meal, but when it was close enough, within a fraction of a second, Grendale swung his sword and chopped off it's fore legs. SKREEEEEAAAKK!!! The lurker screamed and staggered backwards, black blood spilling from its severed legs. Grendale swiftly got up and stared back at its black void eyes. For the last attempt, the lurker summoned all its energy and pounced towards the warrior, multi-toothed mouth wide open to gobble him. It was about to reach him when he simply moved away from its pounce line, letting it crash headlong into the rock pile. With a skull-crushing crash, it fell unconscious with a small THUMP!! Grendale quickly jumped upon it and reached the ledge. Fortunately, the torch was still aflame. He waved the torch around and found roughly carved steps just a little distance away. When he reached the bottom, he saw light a little afar and followed it. A little while later, Grendale reached the chambers of the jail keeper. It was quite big and *cough**cough* quite dusty too. While looking around, he noticed an old worn-down parchment under a pile of records on the table. It was an unsent cry for help written by the Jail Keeper which, by the looks of things, didn't make it out of the chambers. It said that monsters had attacked them and not many could escape the ambushed death. The Jail Keeper and the wardens tried vainly to fight back, but they were overpowered and the monsters occupied the whole dungeon. All hope was lost until a bright spirit came and rescued them. " A bright spirit?", Grendale thought. " What could it be?" Further reading, the letter said that the bright spirit went to the deepest underground vault and stated that a warrior would come this way, and it had something that was supposed to be entrusted to the warrior only. Upon reading the letter, Grendale remembered that his master had also called him in his dream to give him something. Could this bright spirit be connected to his master?...hmm… possible. Grendale searched around in case there might be more such letters, but hit a dead end. There was a huge oak door with signs of war just beside the big bookshelf behind the table. Grendale tried to open it, but it seemed stuck due to the lack of care. Despite his hard efforts, when the door didn't even budge, he conjured up a flame bolt and flung it on the door. BOOM!!! The bolt hit the door and a huge c***k came up. Once again he flung another bolt and the c***k grew bigger until finally at the third bolt, the big oak door came crashing down. *cough* *cough* Once the huge cloud of dust settled, Grendale entered what looked like a huge hall with debris of war littered everywhere. There were steps leading upwards on one side which was still intact. When Grendale reached the top, he was greeted by a sound from above. Thinking it could be one of the monsters from the war, he drew his sword, prepared to fend off the attacker, but instead of some hungry beast, there were 3 small bats swinging on the still-intact chandelier. They weren't looking harmful, but instead looked very scared and a bit hungry. They were flying around randomly in search of a way to exit these gloomy dungeons. From childhood, Grendale was very good with animals and birds. He put back his sword and cooed to them. They perked up at the sound and cautiously came down and sat on a broken pillar in front of him. Grendale could see that these 3 were just babies and that was why the evil settling couldn't affect them. Just by looking at their cute lovely faces, Grendale could feel his heart melt. He decided to keep them by his side to protect them and free them from this place. He offered them some berries that he got from the forest, which they readily took from his hands and squeaked a small thanks. He continued further, closely followed by the bats, but soon came to an abrupt stop. The road further had a huge hole in the ground like a (not-so-much-at-the-moment) hidden path and the steps were unevenly broken. It led down to a long corridor underground, at the end of which was an old elevator. As soon as he entered the elevator, its un-oiled doors creaked shut, and automatically it started descending slowly. After coming down a few floors, the elevator opened up to a very dark corridor with no light. " So this must be the underground vault the Jailer wrote about in that letter. Very interesting, isn't it?", Grendale exclaimed to the 3 baby bats who were clinging onto him now. Scratching their heads lovingly, he led the way into the corridor with the torch he had brought along. GRACIOUS....it was very eerie in here but still a breeze was blowing slightly, so there was no problem with air. Wait!! What?? Wasn't this supposed to be an 'underground vault'? As far as he knew, Grendale didn't come across any other gap through which even air could come in, let alone a breeze. Slightly shivering from the eerie-ness and the cold breeze, Grendale moved forward cautiously, keeping his eyes wide open and ears fully alert for any movements. His hands were ready to draw the sword at any sign of danger. Moving forward slowly, Grendale came to a spot where the breeze was blowing strongly. However, he failed to notice any spot where the air could be coming from. He looked everywhere but nothing came up. " Strange. How can this be? What is the mystery behind this? ", he thought. He broke out of his thoughts when he heard the bat babies squeaking a little and backing away from him with fear in their eyes. He felt strange about their behavior now, when they were doing well so far. He tried cooing them back towards him, but they wouldn't listen. That's when he noticed that they were staring behind him at something in the darkness. Grendale turned around but couldn't see anything except feel the strong breeze. Looking back at the bats, he felt like they could see something in the blank darkness that he failed to see. Grendale placed the torch on the ground and rolled it into the darkness. It went a considerable length and came to a stop near a wooden wall with blocks of wood fallen close to it. It was strange that the bats were afraid of this wall. What was so special about it? Grendale stared hard at this 'wall' trying to see anything dangerous that was spooking the bat babies. It took a few moments for him to realize something which made his heartbeat quicken and his eyes go wide. This 'wall' was expanding and contracting slowly, like the breathing of lungs. This was not a breeze from outside, instead it was the breathing of a humongous beast. GOOD GRACIOUS! Grendale thought, staring at this 15-foot sleeping beast. What happens now? What is this beast and how will Grendale face it? Find out in the next episode, Stay tuned.
