Chapter 9

MALLORY I perceived that delicious scent of wild mushrooms and ran to the hospital room window to have a peek at who it was. His presence was spotted, and it made me panic to know that the Alpha of this pack was around. I felt his intimidating aura from the top floor where I was admitted. As I peered out the window and saw him, my eyes widened in shock. He was a handsome brown-skinned man, but when his black eyes met mine. I quickly ran to hide, as I was afraid of him. “The pack’s Alpha. He is here,” I muttered to myself, and to my shock, a gentle voice responded to me. “Calm down, Mallory. He is not going to hurt you,” the soft voice said, and I almost freaked out, wondering who had spoken to me. “Who are you? Who spoke to me now?” I stood up from the ground beside the window where I was hiding and looked around, wondering who owned that soft melodic voice. “I am in you. Your wolf. Do you want to see me?” she spoke to me again, and I felt stunned. “My wolf? Is this a dream? First waking up to the reality that I am an Alpha she-wolf, and now to the fact that I have a wolf? Someone tell me that I am not dreaming,” I screamed aloud, and the door behind me burst open, as a tall man in black trousers and a white lab coat came in. He looked like the Alpha whose cold gaze I had met, and I gasped and moved away from him. “Who are you? And what do you want here?” I asked the brown-skinned man who marched up to my hospital bed to meet me, just as I moved back and shifted away from him as he neared me. “I should be asking you, Shorty. Who are you? As you don’t belong here, and you are not a member of this pack, yet you are shouting like you own this place?” he accused me, his orange eyes looking at me thoughtfully. I blushed and lowered my face as I apologized to him. “I am sorry. I am Mallory Adonis, Alpha Bruce’s daughter. But I was banished from my pack.” I met his curious gaze, and his intense orange eyes narrowed. “Alpha Bruce?” he mentioned my father’s name like he heard it wrongly. “Yes. Do you know my father?” I asked the handsome man who looked like a lab doctor, and he replied, “Who doesn’t know Alpha Bruce? Are you sure that you are his daughter?” The creepy man drew nearer to me, as his enchanting orange eyes glowed, probably to detect if I was lying to him. “Yes. Alpha Bruce is my father, and I am his first daughter,” I replied, though without confidence, as I lowered my gaze. “Mmm. I find that hard to believe that your father is Alpha Bruce, but your beauty and jasmine scent are intoxicating. Raise your face when I speak to you,” he commanded, and just then, the hospital room door burst open, while Dr. Chris came in with Nurse Elena. Their eyes widened in shock. “Alpha Bowen. You are here?” Dr. Chris asked and bowed to the man named Alpha Bowen. “Yes. I am here, and I perceive this intoxicating jasmine scent that threatened to claim this entire territory with her pheromones and arousal. So that brought me here,” Alpha Bowen stated, and my big blue eyes widened as I looked at him. “Oh! She is among the new foreigners who were found injured at the pack borders, and the warriors on patrol brought her here. I was preparing to inform Beta Dennis about it. Just that, I was still waiting for her final test result to be out to ensure that she is not dangerous or a rogue,” Dr. Chris explained, speaking to Alpha Bowen in a respectful tone. And Alpha Bowen looked at me and nodded. “I see. She isn’t a threat, but her jasmine scent is too intoxicating and can make a normal man aroused to mate with her,” Alpha Bowen stated, looking at me accusingly, and my gaze dropped. *I am not an harlot. Do I really have a scent?* I muttered in my mind, and they kept looking at me. Alpha Bowen then said, “Who told you that you don’t have a scent?” “Huh. Can you hear my mind?” I asked him, and he nodded and smirked. “Yes. As an Alpha, I can hear your thoughts loud and clear. You are an Alpha wolf, and your scent is jasmine. Are you trying to claim that you haven’t met your wolf?” Alpha Bowen moved closer to meet me, and I got pinned by the wall behind my back. “Yes, um, I don’t know. I haven’t shifted since I was born,” I replied nervously, recalling that soft voice that spoke to me before they came, and they all frowned. “Are you serious?” Alpha Bowen asked, a look of disbelief on his face. “Yes,” I replied, shivering and lowering my gaze. “Mmm,” Alpha Bowen stepped away from me and said, “It’s alright. You should wait until Dennis or my brother sends for you. And stop secreting those sèxual pheromones. You are not doing any good but attracting harm to yourself. I came here for other lab matters. Show me to the lab, Dr. Chris.” Alpha Bowen left, and I released the breath that I didn’t know I was holding. “Phew!” I sighed as the two men walked out. “He is our Alpha’s second son, a lab genius, and you don’t have to be afraid of him,” Nurse Elena said, and I looked at her with relief. “Okay. Who was the other man that I saw leaving here earlier? They looked alike. Was he the Alpha?” I asked, my heart still beating so loud in my chest. “Yes. That was Alpha Benson. Did you see him? He loves to make his presence known, and that’s why he kept on secreting more of his territorial pheromones and suppressing us. But he had a wonderful Alpha aura and a wonderful wild mushrooms scent.” Nurse Elena blushed as she went to stand beside the hospital room window and gaze out. “Alright,” I replied with a warm smile and heard my stomach grumble. “I am hungry. Do they serve free food, or am I supposed to pay for it? I don’t even have any money,” I asked Nurse Elena as she finally moved away from the room window. “They will bring your lunch now. They were cleaning the hospital kitchen, so that took them longer to have the patients’ meal ready, but it is free,” she told me with a smile, and that made me relieved. “Alright.” I went to sit on my bed and waited for them to bring me lunch. As Nurse Elena left my hospital room, I kept on thinking about Alpha Benson and his brother, Bowen. They could pass for twins. But while one had black eyes, the other had enchanting orange eyes and long red hair. “Mmm,” I hummed, smiling, and the gentle voice in my mind spoke again, “I am back. Wow! You need to learn a lot about yourself.” “Not again. Who are you?” I asked the voice, and she said, “I am Selena. Your wolf.”
