Chapter Forty. Eliza sat in awe as the SUV climbed higher and higher up the double-tracked road that wound around the large hills. To her left were large houses, some with swimming pools, others with courts that were for playing the bat and ball game she had seen images of in the few books Fitz had brought her from the Ice Palace library during her confinement to her quarters. Never had she witnessed so much green, not a drop of snow lay on the ground. The temperature was around 60 degrees Fahrenheit, a comfortable day, for the residents of the Neutral Zone, yet to her it felt sweltering.
