“Kitten?”
Vera POV
“Hey sis” I say to Juniper as soon as Knox leaves and closes the door.
“Hi, babygirl.”
“How are you?”
“Nothing’s changed since I last saw you” she says with a smile, eliciting a chuckle from me.
I lied to Knox. As soon as Juniper and I are left alone, or even Juniper and Daniella, she comes back to herself. Her heart and soul seem to shut down around other people, though she’s only seen Knox and Josh.
“Are you purposely shutting yourself off around others? Or is it natural?”
Juniper looks at her hands. “It’s definitely natural, but I could stop if I wanted. I just don’t want to put forward that effort.”
