Since the prince went home earlier, Kaia and I had to end our little bonding for two main reasons: first, I can’t stay any longer in their dormitory because the mysterious and a little bit grumpy prince is already home and we might ruin his peace, and I don’t want to be anywhere near him for some reason; and second, I have to go home or else that good for nothing future alpha who goes by the name Hunter will scold me and remind me of the ‘debt’ I owe his family; of how I was able to attain the freedom I have right now because of him.
“See you at the training grounds tomorrow,” Kaia told me after she sent me off outside their dorm.
I just smiled at her and gave her a nod before I turned around and rushed my way back to our dormitory. While I am sprinting my way back, I can already imagine Hunter’s face as soon as he finds out that I went to a friend’s place and forgot my ‘responsibilities’.
And just as I predicted, his face was already creased in irritation. His brows were almost forming a single line when I saw him sitting on the couch with his arms crossed and his other leg over the other. “Where were you?” His voice was cold and deep. I can feel the intent to sound superior; like a master to his slave.
“I went to Kaia’s place,” I simply responded, ignoring his deadly stare. I am nowhere near as threatened. His gaze and tone didn’t scare me even the tiniest bit. I’ve known him for so long and I know he’s not capable of scaring me at all. Seeing all of his flaws and all the things that may cause someone’s dismay, Hunter’s image before my eyes is nothing but a comedy.
“What do you want for dinner?” I casually asked, passing through him. I put my shoes on the rack and put on my slides before going directly to the kitchen. “Steak?” I suggested.
“Where were you,” he repeated. This time, his voice is a little deeper and there’s this hint of anger in his voice.
“I already told you that I went to Kaia’s place, my friend,” I answered, trying to sound as calm as I could since I didn’t want to anger him any further. It won’t do me any good because he will just channel his anger by making me do unnecessary things—a childish move but always gets me pissed to my core. “Look, I didn’t know you’d go home early,” I confessed, heaving a sigh. “So I thought I could spend a few minutes in Kaia’s.”
“But I’m home,” he said, getting up. He stared straight at me, taking a few big steps to close our gap. And just a few seconds later, he’s already right in front of me—just a few inches away. His towering build had me looking up to meet his gaze. “Remember why you’re here,” he murmured, gritting his teeth.
“I didn’t forget about it even for a second,” I casually replied and I saw how his jaw tightened as his eyes narrowed.
He piercingly looked at me, leaning a little closer, “You’re here to be my slave, Maya. You’re here to serve me, my needs; to hear my orders; to follow my words,” he whispered, emphasizing each word he said. “You just can’t go around and do whatever the fúck you want.”
I didn’t like the way he worded his thoughts. I know he’s a total àsshole, but he really did go a level higher this time. I clenched my fists and welcomed his piercing gaze, unfazed. “You don’t own me, Hunter. You can’t control my life however you want and like. As long as I do what I was told to, then I am free to do whatever the fúck I want. So don’t talk like you got my life dancing in your rough palms.”
I slowly distanced myself from him, taking a deep breath to control the rush of emotions inside me. I gave myself a nod, like a signal to switch back to my default mood. “Now, what do you want for dinner, master?” I asked, adding a little bit of sarcasm at the end of my sentence. I tried my best to smile at him, but I know I probably just made him feel more irritated. “Steak?”
“You…” He took a step forward, pushing me to the kitchen counter. He had both of his long arms on the counter with me between them. He gently laid his eyes on me, but behind the gentleness lies the danger I didn’t know I would feel from him.
For a moment, I felt a faint amount of unease. “W-What?” I replied, slightly choking at my own saliva.
His eyes lowered from my eyes down to the lower part of my face. “Aren’t you afraid of me, huh, Maya?” he whispered, gradually showing his devilish smirk.
“No,” I quickly replied, acting as tough as I could even though I could feel my knees shaking a little for some unknown reason.
“Really?” His smirk grew to a grin as he leaned closer to me until I felt his lips slightly touch the tip of my ear. “Well you should,” he whispered. “Because I can do whatever the fúck I want with you. And there’s no one in here that can shield stop me.”
I took a deep breath and pushed him away with force, but I barely managed to move him. “Like what?” I fearlessly responded, raising my left brow.
He just gave me a sly smile. “You’ll see,” he replied, turning his back from me.
I rolled my eyes at him before I faced the counter to check the ingredients. “Bring it on,” I murmured, completely unaffected.
I don’t really care about it. Whatever it is, I’ll face it head-on. I’ve seen the shíttiest and most unreasonable and childish things he could do so nothing can surprise me anymore.
I’ll make sure he will never ruin my life in this camp. I will make sure I will be able to live my life to the fullest without worrying about him and his shíts. I’ll make sure of it!
