1956 Words
ADIRA " Adira, wake up!!!! " Her mum screamed outside her bedroom door with a hard knock. Adira groaned and opened her eyes. She turned around on her small bunk bed robbing her eyes with the back of her hand as she tried to clear the sleep from her eyes. She got up from her bed and went to the windows where she shifted her curtains to let the daylight in before making her way to her reading desk situated at a corner in her tiny bedroom. She sat down and brought her diary closer to her, she flipped through all the written pages till she got to an empty page and she began to write. Good morning dad, Sorry I haven't written to you in the past few days, have been busy helping mum settle us in in our new home. Yes, we arrived at White Creek, I must say the town is beyond what I expected. It is beautiful and their a lot of tall and rich-looking houses, stores and everything you can find in the city but the difference here is the woods the trees with fresh green leaves and fresh air. I must tell you I was a bit skeptical when mum said we should move here, but I think this place will be good for us. The neighbors are nice and mum already has a job at the clinic, she will be walking as their receptionist. Though is small but at least is a job and the money they are going to pay her is handsome too. Today is the first day of school and I am scared. I am scared of them not accepting me, judging me, and finding me wanting. I know what you will say if you are here. Be yourself my darlings and never let what anybody thinks about you bother you. But dad is so hard to ignore them, and no matter how much I try to ignore their taunts their words hurt. I wish you are here dad, I miss you too much. I hope that my new school is better than my old one. Talk to you soon. Your darling daughter Adira. Adira closed back her diary wiping the drop of tears in her two eyes. It's been two years since she lost her dad to lung cancer and she still misses him fiercely like it was yesterday. Her dad had been a smoker that loved his cigarette a bit too much. Two years ago he developed a bad cough that refused to go despite all the drugs he was given. Mum got so worried that she insisted that the doctors carry out more tests even when they tried to discount her worries. Good thing that she did even though it didn't end well. After series of serious tests carried out on his chest and lungs it was revealed that my dad was suffering from lung cancer. The day the news was broken to us will forever be one of my dark days. My parents tried to remain positive, my dad fought my mum did all she can to be supportive, I tried to be there for mum but she insisted on me going to school. My dad's illness lingered for two years till he lost the fight. Writing in her diary is a way Adira used to cope with her dad's death. It makes her feel close to him as if he was still alive. Writing down her thoughts was a habit she developed when she was young which had helped her through some hard and confusing emotions over the years, but writing to her dad was something she started a few months ago when the pain of his loss had been so unbearable. Adira got to her feet and made her way to the bathroom. A thin smile curves her lips when she caught sight of her bed hair. Her blonde hair was going in a different direction like something a rat did a breakdance in. She has always had the worse morning hair. Adira took her toothbrush and began brushing her teeth while her mind went to her new school. White Creek high. She will be starting as a senior there. From the bad experience, she had in her old school which was one of the reasons they had to move, plus the fact that they needed a fresh start after her dad passed. Adira was not looking forward to school today. If she was giving a choice she will forgo school all together but her mum wouldn't hear of it. Her mum was serious about her education, something about not wanting her only child to end up like her. A school dropout. Her mum had gotten pregnant with her when she was in high school and had to drop out of school, luckily her dad who was the man or the boy at that time responsible for her pregnancy decided to take responsibility and married my mum. Due to her lack of education mum had to do menial job and so wishes for me to finish school go to college and get a good job something she was never able to do, not that she regrets her choices. To hear her say it. I was the greatest thing to happen to her. Adira smiled at the thought of her mother's love. Her mum was her best friend. She quickly finished up with her teeth and went into the shower. Once she was done she went to her closet. She had very limited options to chose from. Her parents have never been well to do from the start what with her dad walking at a departmental store and her mum some office assistant. Her dad had also dropped out of school, saying it won't be right if my mum alone was to be the only one making the sacrifice. Not having money has never been an issue in our house because my parents made sure to provide for me and I was pretty pampered but things got pretty difficult when my dad got sick, his insurance was not enough to cover his medical bills and soon we were running into depts and began to sell some properties and after dad died mum used almost the remaining funds to carter for his burial. The months following his burial we could hardly get by and mum was finding it difficult getting another job after she quit her assistant job to take care of my dad. She saw a news ad about a clinic need of an assistant in a town called White Creek and decided to apply. We have never heard of this town but mum thought it was better than staying in the city to literally starve. Adira chose a pair of blue skinny ripped jeans, a black t-shirt, and a matching long sleeve shirt which she tied off around her slim waist. She packed her blonde hair up in a rough ponytail that let few strands fall down the side of her face. She had never been the one to care for makeup so she didn't put on one. She wore her black high ankle boots and picked up her black backpack before leaving her room. While she headed for the kitchen she passed her mum's bedroom and could hear the shower running. Their apartment was a two-bedroom flat with a tiny living room. The accommodation was modest but her mum was able to make it feel like home. She walked into the kitchen to the cupboard and took out the cereal box and then a white ceramic bowl plate which she poured a lot of cereal into it before going to the fridge to get the gallon of milk which she poured a healthy quantity of it inside the bowl. While she was eating her mum made her way into the kitchen all dressed up. People say that she looks a lot like her mum and they weren't lying she is like the younger-looking carbon copy of her mum. The same five-six ft height, the same amazing forest green eyes the same long silky blonde hair the only difference is that she wears hers long while her mum had has trimmed to the shoulders with some highlights. All the same, her mum is beautiful. " Ready for your first day at school pumpkin? " Carolyn asked her daughter going to make the same breakfast that her daughter was eating for herself. Done she joined her girl at the table. Adira just shrugged her shoulders not saying anything. Whether she was ready or not what difference does it make? She was still going. " Don't worry pumpkin this school will be different, " Carolyn assured her daughter touching the small fingers that lay on the table. She had been surprised and mad as hell when her daughter revealed to her what she had been going through in. her old school. She had wanted to sue the students who were responsible for bullying her daughter but her daughter's reluctance to pursue the matter and the fact that they were having issues with money made her let the matter go. But she has a feeling that things are going to be different here. Adira looked up at her mum. " How do you know mum? " She asked softly. In her formal school, she was badly bullied that she dreaded going to school and had to cut herself to deal with the hell she was going through and only reveal things to her mum recently but not about cutting herself though. That was a secret no one knows. She never had any friends at school. People stayed away from her because she was the target of the popular crowd in school nobody wanted to get bullied alongside her. " I just know pumpkin, " Carolyn assured her daughter. When they were done with their breakfast, Adira took both their plates to the sink where she rinsed them off and placed them face down on top of the sink. " I will drop you off before heading off to work, " her mum said when they came out to the pouch. " Morning, Mrs. King, " their neighbor, a tall older gentleman greeted them. He was watering his flowers. " Morning Billy, " Carolyn greeted him while Adira just waved at him. We entered mum brown beat up wagon and mum tried to start it. It purred as if kicking to life and then went silent. " Common Sassy, " my mum begged the car trying again. Is kind of cute that my mum named her car. It was as if Sassy heard her plea and purred to life and off we go. " Thanks, mum, Adira said when they arrived. " You are welcome pumpkin, have a great day at school today, " Carolyn said. " I will, " Adira replied kissing her mum's cheeks before getting out of the car. She watched her mum drive away before turning to face the school. The tall building looming over her was bigger than she had expected and looks a little bit intimidating. She took a deep breath mentally preparing herself to walk in when something caught her attention from her side-eye. She turned and watched as a black slick Lamborghini, and a red Ferrari drove into the parking lot. They were not the only cool cars in the parking lot. Seems a lot of rich kids go here. Adira swallowed as tension filled her body. She knew firsthand how cruel rich kids can be. The door of the Lamborghini opened and a girl stepped down from it. Wow, she is stunning, she thought staring.
