When the Princess left, I went in search of Queen Zurina, but the palace seemed deserted. I saw several places of smoldering ashes, and I wondered if those were piles of vampires. I couldn't find anything or anyone. The more I wandered, the angrier I became. The Princess was right. I meant nothing to the vampires. I had been lied to. I didn't even realize that I had started crying until my vision got blurry, and I reached up to clear my eyes and found them wet. I sat down on the stairs and wallowed in self-pity. I had no home to return to, no family, nothing. The vampires were all I had.
I let my feet wander, and found myself outside of Zurina's office. I had never been allowed in there before, but I figured I had nothing left to lose so I slowly pushed the door open. There were
