One thing I had noticed in my travels was how vivid the sky was here with so many knew stars that I had never seen in my old world, not to mention the rays of light that dance across the sky periodically that had only just begun to disappear as the sun peaked over the horizon. I swatted next to the riverbank splashing water on my face, the cool water was refreshing to my tired eyes. Judging by how the tracks began to pick up I assumed I was heading in the right direction, hoping for a town along the way. After airing out my feet and changing into a new pair of socks that were not drenched in sweat, I began venturing fourth again.
The temperature did not take long to rise as the sun made its way to the center of the sky. I was due for another break but once I stumbled upon a dirt road. It motivated me to continue knowing I would be close to something, my stomach roared in protest. in my whole master plan, I had not packed any food, granted being attacked by that s*x fiend was also not in my plan, and unfortunately for me I was neither a fisherman nor a hunter even with all the tips Reign was giving me.
I trudged onward till the sounds of carriage started approaching from behind, I quickly move aside as a wooden carriage being pulled by nothing more than a magic stone sped past me on the road. As cool as that was had I moved a minute to late that thing would have mauled me down, I could not help as my mind played back my past life’s death, snapping out of it mostly due to my hunger I knew I was close to something. Sure enough after another hour of walking I began to hear the sound of music and laughter as I approached what appeared to be a bar of sorts its large wooden frame was surround by dense forest but a make shirt dirt lot laid in front of it leading off the dirt path I had been following. There were sever carts lined up outside the establishment. The closer I got the more the smell of food wafted into my nose, caution be dammed I’m going to assume this place is safe or at least hope. My hunger got the best of me as I walked through the saloon style doors, I was meet with several curious gazes, a man in a hood sitting in a booth has peered up interrupting his meal, along with the what I assume to be bartender , and a table of Viking looking fellows.
Making awkward hellos as I made my way to the bar sitting down with a sigh of relief tossing my backpack down.
“You don’t look like you’re from around here… you also bear no scent marker; I will assume you will cause no trouble here MS?” the barkeep said as he approached me setting an empty mug in front of me.
“Devin and no, no trouble from me I’m just passing through. Do you happen to have a menu of sorts or?” I began rambling as he eyed me up and down.
“No menu Ms. I’m serving rabbit stew, and I got an assortment of drinks, house special is buy one get one” he said pointing at a wooden cask behind him.
“Rabbit stew sounds lovely ill take four bowls and the house special.” I could feel reign dancing around inside me at the mention of the stew.
I watched as the barkeep filled up one bowl after another placing them in front of me along with wooden utensils. I wasted no time eating as he filled my glass with what I assumed to be a type of beer, it was golden and frothy. As o took a swig my face contorted as the bitter taste took me by surprise, well better than nothing.
“don’t suppose you know where the nearest town is” I said in-between bites of food.
“Eye, if you continue norther a mile or so there is a fork in the road if you go left and walk another mile or so you’ll reach the western pack boarder town” he paused briefly considering what to say.” I should warn you… not sure if they will let you in easily MS… no offense but without a scent most people will consider you rouge.” He said polishing a glass. I could feel the bar patrons’ eyes on me again.
“No offense taken but will not know unless I try “I said wiping my mouth on napkin. “How much do I owe you”. I said as the barkeep took notice of the four empty bowls and two empty glasses, shocked.
“If-um 4 should cover it” he said as I fumbled through my bag pulling out a purple collared bill with a five on it.
“Keep the change” I said as I got up heading for the exit.
he smiled widely “have a wonderful day!”
I left in a hurry, I felt so uneasy in there as the man in both had kept his glaze locked on me the whole time. A shiver ran down my spine as I continued down the dirt road. It was not long before I found the fork in the road, I was told about taking a left I started dreaming about a nice hot bath and a fresh pair of clothes. Once I was settled in the town, I would figure out my next move. With my knew found energy it wasn’t long before I began approaching the boarder, the air had begun to shift slightly from a warm tropical to a cool autumn, even the foliage began to change, the sweat the was currently beading down my back was now causing be to shiver as a cool breeze cut through my clothing.
The sight of a large wooden bridge with two guard towers on either side of it. The closer I got the more I could make out the eight guards standing post four up top and four down below. Sensing my approach I saw them stiffen up.
“Stop right there!” a guard shouted as two of them began to approach me. I listened to them and froze in my tracks, placing my hands up. As the two guards approached me on grabbed my bag immediately searching it while the other and scrawny man with a thick brown mustache and a head of hair to match got in my face.
“What is your name and where are you coming from?” he said in an authoritative tone.
“I’m Devin woods, I’m coming from the fires territory” I said answer the questions calmly. Once they concluded I had no weapons they handed back my bag and allowed me to drop my hands.
“Why are you traveling with no scent of your pack?” the guard asked.
“I have a birth defect that causes my wolf to be weaker than most so the alpha did not want to claim me as one of his own but let me stay until I turned eighteen. So now I’m here just looking for a cure” I said summing up a long story, even though none of it was a lie I had decided to leave a lot of crucial details out. As the guards looked at each other debating if my story was true or not, they finally turned back.
“Ok, we are allowing you through but if you cause any problems what so ever we will not hesitate to lock you up .” They turned their backs as they walked back to their post. I followed shortly behind them making more awkward eye contact with the other guards as I walked past them over the gate. Once across I was met with what looked like an insane renaissance fair, with booths of people selling trinkets and food, people dressed in assortment of cloaks and dresses, some in leather, a blacksmith beating a piece of metal on an anvil.
-Ok let us find a place to stay first, then some knew clothes to better fit in- I said to reign who nodded in agreement.
