"That was the last one." Dr Mack announces and plops down on the first step of the staircase. His sleeves are rolled up to his elbows and his hair has seen better days, but he insisted that Laurie and I shouldn't carry any of the boxes filled with equipment, nor the gun cases to the moving van we rented.
"Are you OK?" I ask the doctor, seeing his face grow a sad smile.
"I am. It's just, I think I'm going to miss this place and all it has taught me. Never in my 46 years on this Earth have I felt more alive, more driven than when I was doing those surgeries and giving those families something that they never thought was even possible. It just...
