Marisol still felt like she was living a dream. She’d been living in the cathedral for a month, and adapting to witch life, became surprisingly easy.
Brianna woke her up early for cardio, Tamia would read her cards or gaze into the future before she did certain things. And Jeremy slowly but surely became a warm big brother type to her. It felt like home, and as Aurora seemed to become attached to every one of these people, Marisol felt it ring through her.
The familia bond she’d always looked for in her aunt or even Frank. But neither had ever treated her like family. She'd always come across as more like a nuisance or a thing. Even a check.
But here, she was loved. And while she kept it to herself, only one thought hurt her lately. Stephano Dante was still in prison.
Having checked in, she could see he was waiting for trial for a rap fee. But after a little string-pulling, she had heard rumors to believe someone was trying to get ICE involved. Question his citizenship because they couldn’t find his birth certificate.
Which had Marisol gnawing her lip in concern as she worried he might end up deported. And if so, did he have anyone that would help him wherever they sent him? She knew she couldn’t throw much energy into it considering a f*****g monster was going to be coming at her soon.
But at night, when she couldn’t sleep, she’d think about it. And worry.
And maybe she left a lump sum on his and the guy's books. Just out of sheer worry of them being in that place. And not really happy they were.
But that was their lives, and she couldn’t control them. Or tell them how to live it. But it hurt because she knew they could live better. Or smarter at least.
Sighing as thousands of thoughts plagued her, it was as she sat thinking by the river she heard, “Those are some troubling thoughts.” And Marisol winced as she glanced over to see Kase. Brianna hadn’t called him her boyfriend when she introduced them, so Marisol was thinking really intense f**k friend.
Or a man she just hadn’t slapped a label on yet.
It was whatever in her book, because Kase was indeed papi material. But his eyes screamed mayhem and a fracture that seemed dark. And the only reason Marisol wasn’t more freaked out about it, was because it seemed to dim to nonexistent when Brianna was close.
And whether Brianna saw it or not, Kase wasn’t some light thing. He was in it, and he wasn’t going anywhere. And while, Marisol found him being the God of Death’s son, intimidating she was also a little jealous.
Marisol couldn’t even get a mortal to stay by her. And her sister in magic had gone and gotten a whole god.
“I have a lot on my mind.” She finally replied bouncing a sleeping Aurora in her arms and Kase sighed, “I know you’re worried. And this is all coming at you so fast, and I know you’re daughter being in the mix isn’t helping. But you’re strong, and you’re coming into your power with a fierceness. It’s impressive.”
Humbled by the compliment, Marisol did feel stronger. All the magic her aunt had been siphoning from her had grown in the last week or so. It now felt alive inside her and she practiced daily, to protect her daughter. And to avenge her parents.
“Both my madre and Diosa Anna made it clear Gabriel Ramirez will be coming for me. I have to be ready.”
Kase breathed out as he thought of the man tied to that name, “He’s a miserable sack of s**t. I’ve heard of him, and dangerous to go up against.” Marisol breathed out, “I know. But if he’s still after me, I need to level up to protect her. Because he won’t hurt her, I won’t let him.”
Watching the water for a moment, birds flying overhead to head to the south, Kase felt tranquility, “His power level is powerful for demons walking this plane. I believe he is of the Sombra race. Their powers are pyrotechnics, shapeshifting, and emotional manipulation. They make you see things, illusions to trick or coerce you with lies.”
Marisol kissed Aurora’s head, “I can handle that.” Kase agreed, “I know you could. But it’s still hard when you have to kill someone. Even something, for the first time.” Scoffing, Marisol slowly turned to the cathedral, “Won’t be my first time killing someone.”
And just as she was approaching the cathedral, Marisol suddenly felt a rush of emotion. Panic, fear, and anger, and all of it came to her in a whirlwind. Rushing inside, Marisol walked into their living room and found Tamia in tears.
Turns out the cops were scurrying around the city for Tamia. And her entire situation was getting worse as her crime was starting to catch up to her. "I'm so scared," Tamia cried, "I don't want to go to jail! I didn't mean to! I don't know what came over me when I-."
Marisol held her, "It'll be okay, just breath. Just breath." Pacing, Brianna watched her brother stand, "I think I have an idea." Brianna looked at Jeremy confused, "What is it?" Jeremy looked at her closely, "We know the new ADA." Brianna raised an eyebrow, "Yeah...?"
Jeremy nodded, "We let her hear Tamia out on Tamia's terms." Marisol looked at Jeremy closely, "And if that doesn't work?" Jeremy looked at a trembling Tamia, "We got you, sis." Leaning into them for strength, Tamia agreed.
Heart racing, Marisol knew this was still a boiling pot for Tamia to be in. So she just hoped this worked out.
