The staff didn’t like her. She was certain of it. They were whispering and hovering and each time she lifted her head from the book her grandfather gave her the day before, she noted they all turned away. She recalled a strange memory of being a child chasing pigeons in the park and watching them scatter. She wondered if she ran at them if the housekeeping staff would do the same. “Out with it!” she gave an impatient shriek as Minnie and Taisa both hovered near the door.
