She nods timidly and moves to sit on a log lying on the ground. “My family was killed by wolves.”
That explains the overwhelming sense of fear that I can feel from her. “I won’t hurt you.”
“I feel like you’re telling the truth,” she tells me with a small smile as I join her on the log. “They just… they wanted to use our magic, no matter the cost.”
“I am sorry that happened to you, “ I say, placing my hand over hers where it sits between us. My heart flutters when she doesn’t pull away. “It isn’t like that, though. You’re my mate.”
