Mae slid off the vampire’s lap, but he held on to her refusing to let go. “Don’t. I like it when we’re like this. It makes me feel sane.”
“Please,” she begged. He grasped her chin, and made her look up at him. His eyes stared deep into hers and it made her feel like he was reading her mind again. She closed her eyes, hoping that he wouldn’t be able to read her mind if she didn’t look into his eyes. He ran his fingers over the column of her neck, running them down to the spot where he bit her. Mae shivered from the achy sensation that rushed through her. Her p***y pulsed from need. She squirmed in his lap, wanting to get away. She couldn’t believe she was sitting there on his lap, and he was touching her with a familiarity that took her by surprise. A shiver went through her - her body responded to his touch. She hated it. She shouldn’t be feeling like this about this monster. He hurt her, and her family. “Don’t touch me please,” she said.
Mae thought he wouldn’t listen to her, but the vampire sighed. He dropped his arms to the floor. Mae slid off him. He got to his feet and started to pace. He came back a to stop in front of her as if he couldn't stay away. She could see the frustration in his eyes. Mae held her breath waiting for him to lash out at her. But he didn’t. Tense seconds ticked by. She bit into her bottom lip.
“If I can’t touch you, tell me about your happiest memory, something to chase away the darkness in my mind,” he said lying down on the floor, next to her. Her heart hammered in her chest as she stared at him. Vicker closed his eyes. Mae was silent for a few minutes trying to think of something to say. His eyes flew open and he stared at her. “Unless if you want me to continue touching you. I can do that,” he said reaching for her hand, and pulling her to him. She hovered over him. He stared up at her. His eyes focused on her lips. They literally tingled, and something intoxicating rushed through her veins.
“No,” Mae pulled her hand away, and her hand cradled it to her chest as the tingled played over the part he'd held. She quickly thought of something to say. “My fondest memory is from when I was a little girl. My sister and I lived with these fairies. There was a meadow on the other side of their home. It was filled with flowers,” she said clutching the side of her arm with the hand she cradled to her chest as she remembered that time in Lanarrie’s house. A mix of emotions surged within her. Tears filled her eyes as she thought of her sister, and that beautiful meadow. She loved it when she weaved flowers in her hair. Mystic looked like a goddess with flowers in her hair. Mae closed her eyes as she remembered the smell and feel of the sun on her skin. The room wobbled. She blinked, and she felt like everything was shifting all around her. Fear filled her. She reached out for the vampire, clutching his hand. But everything all around her went dark.
“Mae? Open your eyes, baby,” someone whispered softly next to her. The voice sounded familiar. Arms came around her, holding her tighter. The sigh of relief washed over her. Her eyes fluttered open, and red ones stared back at her. “How are you feeling?” he asked, reaching over to touch her check. She pulled away from his touch. Hurt flickered in his eyes as he stared at her. He sat up, moving away from her.
Mae looked around her. She was in her room in the fairy kingdom. And she was in the bed with the vampire. Her stomach did a little funny dance, sending a nervous feeling up her spine. She sat up, putting space between them.
He was awake then, and he brought her back, she thought as she stared at his wide back. And just like Dr. Madison said he was the only one who could save her.
Mae touched the side of her head, she didn’t feel like she was going crazy or that the past was crushing down on her and dragging her back to the past. Was she cured? She asked herself. She hoped so. She didn’t want to go through that again. She had felt like she was drowning.
“Thank you,” she said as Vicker got up from the bed. He stared down at her. Mae looked away unable t hold his stare. Her eyes fell to the fresh wound on his arm. She gasped. She remembered those. His body had been riddle with them when he was in that house. Vicker didn’t say anything. He turned and walked to the bathroom. Mae heard the sound of water. A few minutes later, Vicker came back with a wet towel. He walked to her side of the bed, and sat down. He took her arm, and smoothed the towel down her arm.
Mae hissed in surprise as pain flared down her arm. She looked down and saw the same wound on her arm.
“I guess we’re still linked,” he stated. He dropped her arms and took the towel back to the bathroom. He came back and stood at the end of the bed. His eyes returned to her. Mae felt the weight of his stare on her. She looked away. “You can’t ignore me or us forever,” he said.
Mae opened her mouth, but she didn’t know what to say to him. She wasn’t ready to have this conversation with him. Not yet. She was finally thinking clearly.
Before she could say anything the door opened, and her sister came in. She came to a stop as she saw her sitting there.
“Mae?” Mystic said. She ran to the bed. Mae laughed as she wrapped her arms around her. She wiped tears from her eyes as her sister squeezed her tight.
“Are you alright?” she asked pulling back to stare at her. Mae felt Vicker’s eyes on her. She looked up to find him staring at her. Mystic stopped holding her tight. She looked at Vicker too. “I guess I should thank you for saving my sister.”
“It doesn’t sound like you’re grateful,” he said.
“Not really, because I know what you want, but thank you anyway,” Mystic said. She sat in front of Mae blocking her from Vicker. Mae stared at her.
“Whatever you do, won’t change the fact that she’s mine,” he said. “ But I’m tired of fighting you on that. We’ll talk later Mae,” he said walking out of the room.
“We’ll see about that. Her true mate will be coming soon, and we’ll see what happens,” Mystic shouted after him.
“You found him?” Mae asked. Excitement worked through her at the thought of seeing Larson again.
“Soon,” Mystic said turning to her. “He’ll be here soon, and you won’t have to deal with that.”
Mae’s heart jerked in her chest. Her eyes drifted to the door. She shook her head. She didn't want the vampire. She might be his bride, but it didn't mean that she had to be his bride.
"Tell me how you'll find him," she said to her sister, striving to wipe away the hurt look in the vampire's eyes from her mind. She didn't want to think about him.
